I am far from young and love what I see here.
I wouldn't look at a Civic R though, if that makes sense.
Buyer's may end up into the 30, 40 and even 50 somethings.

Now, how will it sound?

ok sorry, phew! I really like the looks and price point. I do hope it shows the Golf R a clean pair of heels, but its getting rave reviews. Great competition in that sector.

As long as both you and Ford feel there will be a lot of those.

I like that!!!

The upcoming GT will be another Game Changer. This time with serious Tech and looks to rival ANYTHING on earth!

The Shelby Mustangs are gonna run with or possibly best C7.
And that Track focused GT350 is gonna humiliate the Z28 while keeping is occupants cool with a/c abd jamming out with Harmon Kardon stereo.

V8 mustang doesnt have 4 doors, doesnt have hatchback cargo space, doesnt have awd. This will blow doors off of mustang gt on a auto x coursed. It deftinately has its merits and worth the cost

Then I guess if you want a 35k autox vehicle... then this is perhaps the right car. I just hope many feel the same way... especially given other vehicles for this price.

I must say I really like what Ford is doing with their new cars and the new Focus RS is fantastic. I would probably take this over STI and EVO.

Yeah I am thinking the Ford probably is goanna be a bit more raw. Probably better on the track . But, when you look at what it's based upon vs the Golf, I think the Golf will be more refined as a daily driver.

The question is how will VW Respond.

Not my kinda car but I'd be lying if I said that isn't an impressive ass machine.

Good time to be a fan of AWD, high performance hatchbacks.

It was quite something to learn how well regarded the Focus is in the UK as, here, Ford was always just another domestic brand that made crap like the Mercury line of cars (shudder)

But, over there, cars like this Focus have been lighting it up for a while.

Nice that this is finally coming over here.

Now if only GM would do likewise and bring the Vauxhall VXR cars over to this side of the pond we could have some real fun with little hot hatches (and, frankly, other VXR's too).

In my view, bringing real, small and 'cool' performance cars like this over to North America will do the most to improve the image of the domestic cars in the eyes of enthusiasts than whatever is happening with the Corvette or Mustang. Those cars are (for better or worse) locked into a certain image. Fresh cars like this that kick ass aren't and could help the "Big 3" with their image problem over here.

Ken Block was a consultant on the suspension of this thing so it should handle terrific around those parking lots filled with empty shipping containers.

If there was ever a hot hatch that I wanted, this would be it. I just hope they keep it around $40k cdn.

I think you are right in saying the Golf R will be more refined compared to the RS. The Golf is a great car to begin with and VW added spice and made the R. RS as you say will probably be more focused for hard driving. VW will respond with the Golf R400 which they shown as a concept.

Having said that Mercedes facelifted A45 will most likely get around 375 hp. Then Audi RS3 will probably get a "plus" version and carrying the same motor as the Golf R400. This is an epic power wars in the hot hatch segment. If only BMW would stuff the upcoming M2 engine into their 1 series hatch. Finally if all these Euro hatches would come to North America that would be a bonus.

You missed the whole point. Compared to mustang gt, this has much better capabilities as daily driver w all the room and cargo space. Not to mention way more engaging and fun to drive.
What you are saying sounds like there are tons better options out there for the money, but i dont think so. Evo x is out of prod, sti is no hatch, mustang only comes in 2 doors. Other than golf R, mazdaspeed 3?, there isnt much other fun focused 4door hatch in this segment.
Out here in US, we see focus as shitty econobox, but european focus rs /st has been a greatly tested and praised car. Im just happy ford is bringing the goods back to the states.
