Front end (Passenger) Whiney Noise w/video now
Hey guys!
A month or so ago I noticed a sound coming from the front end of my vehicle. The noise is similar to a howling type of sound. I heard it while driving, during acceleration. A short time after the noise went away. The noise recently came back. I noticed that when I am making sharp turns that the noise appears to be coming from the front suspension (completely stock). Could this be the belts? The noise is to inconsistent for me to tell. The best description of the noise is that is similar to a howling sound. Last edited by simpleM3; 04-23-2016 at 11:57 AM.. Miles on the car?
If the noise occurs under turning and is coming from the front, I'd look at the wheel bearings. If you doink'd the undertray, you could be rubbing or getting wind noise too. Not enough info to tell (speed it occurs would be helpful). If the noise is on sharp turns in either direction, especially at slow speeds, look at your diff. Sounds like the clutches are catching/dragging. Diff fluid change (with appropriate friction modifier) should do the trick to fix it.

Thanks, good info. I had a diff issue on one of my old E90 (330i) and it sounded different and was more constant than the noise I am getting now and this noise is definitely coming from the front. Obviously completely different car, so maybe i shouldn't count that out. i tried to record the noise but it isn't loud enough to get on video. The inconsistency of the noise volume is what has me a little confused. i'm thinking wheel bearings as well. Car has 41k. How frequent is it to see an 11 with 40k need a wheel bearing replacement?

I found this a recorded by someone else, but this pretty much sums up the noise i hear. Again, it's very inconsistent. It's not always this loud. Most of the time everything sounds normal, but this whine in this video comes every once in a while:
