I'm APATT.
I've had the car in D mode once, in stop and go traffic on I-5 in SoCal. Didn't like it, put it back in manual mode. S3 for the street, S4 on the track.

Hard to paddle when the wheel is cranked over 90 degrees, then it's stick, and then I'm stuck on the stick...
So it's All Paddles Until Turn then Stuck on Stick APUTSS Which is what you become if you leave it in D!!! So it's S Mode All the Running Time or SMART!

I'm all paddles all the time. I always keep it in S4. The good thing about the paddles in S4 is that you can get fairly fast shifts, shift when you want to and still shift to 2nd gear (or start in 2nd) during stop and go in traffic, slow driving in parking garages, etc.

I'm a little schizophrenic. It depends on where my right hand is. Since I'm a life long manual driver, it's often resting on the stick out of habit. So if that's where it is, that's what I use for upshifts. If my right hand happens to be on the wheel, then I use the paddle for upshifts. I've become pretty flexible about it, without even thinking about it. But for some reason don't use it much for downshifts, even if my right hand is resting on it.
Downshifts are almost always done with the paddle because my left hand is almost always on the wheel. So, on the street, 95% of my upshifts are done with the stick, 98% of my downshifts are done with the paddle. On the track, 100% paddles, up and down. |

I put in D until the engine fully warms up.

I almost always drive in manual mode now but rarely use the paddles. I think shifting with the stick is easier during everyday driving and the paddles are only really useful for times when you just don't want to take your hands off the wheel (at very high speed, on track, etc.).
