I've been wondering about the reality of doing a DIY on this for a while but since not many do, I haven't seen any feedback. Any specialty tools necessary? Lifting the engine?

Thanks guys - The other half has been a good amount of work but still not that bad considering. I've been trying to follow the ESS instructions step by step just to see how far they will get you. For the most part they are very good but there are a few steps that aren't clearly explained (IMO) and the pictures are small and not very detailed. Plus there are several sections where one of the previous steps was written under the next sequential picture - editing error I guess. In these cases I just did what I thought was best based on experience. The guide also doesn't list torque specs so I'll probably post those up when I'm done.

I lost a lot of time last night because of a screw that decided to take a dive behind the engine.

At this point I'm 12 hours invested including the setback with the screw but I'll be finished tomorrow once I hook up the pump for the cooler and add oil to the compressor.

ramyar - You do not need to lift the engine - It's just a really involved bolt-on.

Thumbs up

It looks like you're almost complete. Did you add the K&N air filter sock?

Just started mine today. Ran rough for hte first 2 minutes, SES light came on and said "increased emissions". Gonna put the bumper on and start it up again.

Well I got a scanner, and the code is a P0112. Either the sensor isn't plugged in all the way or we broke it when putting it in. Sorry to derail the thread.

Finished my install this afternoon. Started up, no lakes, no issues. I double checked everything and drove 40 miles each way to a BMW G2G down town. The car still needs to 'learn' and log few miles but it runs strong and is very responsive.

The car is a lot louder now and you can really hear the blower from a good distance away. It doesn't whine like the roots style kits, but you hear a high pitch whistle at different RPMs.

Overall I'm very impressed with the kit and I love the iND painted manifold! I'll write up some notes on the install though and share some pics a little later. Unless I had a bogus copy of the instructions they really need to make some updates.

Any feedback you have on the DIY manual, please forward to our production manager Hans Kirkerod (hans(at)esstuning.com). Any and all feeback we can use to make the DIY process easier would be highly appreciated.

See everyone, THIS is how a reputable business that values their customers (and wants new ones) should operate. No excuses, no whining or finger pointing... They have the presence of mind to monitor public perception of their products and proactively reach out to help.

I always knew ESS was a class act, this more than solidifies it.
Kudos
