Just got my Blizzaks on the 19" stockers for the winter season in NY. I don't want to learn the hard way, and I won't mess around in sleet and snow but how will the car behave on winter tires in cold dry weather and rain?

I have the Blizzaks LM-60s on my E92's 19 inchers as well. Have had a some very cold days and ice on the road.

You will still get some slippage and loss of traction, but it happens later in the acceleration and recovery is faster than the stock PS2s. Overall, I have much more confidence on icey roads now.

Do your winter tires feel like they are grabbing more on the fronts when on dry payment pushing it up over 80? Not sure if I am explaining the feeling right...

Assuming you went with LM60's? They are much more performance orientated so don't expect batmobile control on icy roads. Be safe!

I have WS60's and my god are they great. Bridgestone knows how to make a great tire, now if only they could make the tire ride like new until they were near done. This is why Michelin will always be king, but then again only with summer tires.

Yes, the Blizzaks are lm60s, 255/35r-19 ft, 275/35r-19. I got mine at tirerack.com. BMW fanatic is correct, they are "performance winter" tires, as the weather here in Oregon is cold and icey, with only occasional snow in our valley.
These tires are a perfect match for weather conditions here. With the performance aspect of these tires I can still have fun putting the foot down on cold dry days.

Yes, I went with the LM60's....just looking for a tire that will get me home in some unexpected snow but still let me play a little when it's cold and dry.

You'll be just fine with LM60s. A bit of winter driving common sense is all you need. Ground clearance will be your biggest concern, other than watching out for other ill-prepared drivers out there.

Tire Rack seems to suggest 235/35/19 and 255/35/19 for the LM60s for an M3. I got those sizes on LM60s only to have my BMW dealer reject them for installation stating that the tires did not "protect the rim" and that the tires were too narrow on the rim to adequately handle high lateral loads. Tirerack disagreed, but took them back. So then I ordered Pirelli 270s, but eventually found out that Pirelli is not going to make them in that size this year. So now I am back to the drawing board.

Considering getting VMR 710s 9.5 / 18 square setup with 245/40/18 dunlop wintersports 3D, which have treated me very well on other performance cars that I have owned.

Anybody have an opinion on 255/35/19 and 275/35/19 for the stock compeition rims for the LM60s? Will they better cover the stock rims in that size?

Hmmm, interesting. I just had Tirerack ship a WS-60 235/40/18 square setup to my dealer, as a number of people here run that setup for good snow/ice traction. Hopefully my dealer won't balk at putting them on.

Direct from Alufelgen. Search the vendor classifieds. They are also available from some distributors that are also sponsor vendors here.

I have found that most people around here that are running winter setups on ZCP 359s are using a 255/35 275/35 setup, usually with LM60s. They fit very nicely on the 9" and 10" wheels, and if your dealer rejects, them, just pick up and go elsewhere. Search for user "daft" - he's the first that comes to my mind with this exact setup.

The 235/35 and 255/35 setup works better on a 8.5/9.5 wheel set, i.e. 220M wheels, or many others.

Thanks Chowster. Seems like if your putting LM60s on the stock 19 inch 9/10 " ZCP rims you may need to go a little wider than Tirerack site recommends and do 255 front and 275 rear. I am weighing that option versus going with a square 18 inch set up on 9.5 inch VMR 710s.I guess the advantage of a square setup on smaller narrower rims is better winter traction and rotatability. Disadvantage might be some dry handling trade off and a little more cost up front, although in the long run cost evens out a bit when you consider mounting and balancing winter versus summer tires twice a year for a few years.
