Nice, but a nasty risk in terms of maintenance. Not something for someone looking for a cheap classic.

I'm in Jersey too and I see them fairly often for how rare they are. The 8 always made me
Cause of the maintenance nightmare I'd never want one as a DD. As a weekend ride though... for sure

In the metal, some remarked about it having a vaguely Asian look as others have mentioned here.

I was fired up to trade the L6-E24 in on an 8 when it came out but it was so expensive, and not so fast in a heavy chassis. But I always have liked the car, inside and out. It has an elegance about it that is hard to describe.

There are aspects of the new 6 that I see in it, as regards luxury GT.

It's more of a "grand touring" car than a sports car, and mine's also an auto... I've only driven mine a couple times since it needs some work - namely new front struts, so I haven't had a chance to open it up.

If you want to hear about these cars, how wonderful and quirky they are and how they can sometimes get expensive, there's a great 8-series/E31 section over at bimmerforums.com

Theres actually an M8 floating somewhere in the headquarters of BMW in Germany. I've seen pics of it somewhere on here.

Great post, one of my favorite BMW's from back in the day. Rarely saw them then and barely see any now.

I remember someone put the ///M V12 from a CSi into a 3-series compact!
Hey! That's my old 850! I've had lots of BMW's over the years and the experience of driving the 850 (6 speed) was different from any other car. The interior ergonomics were spot on perfect for me, starting that v12 was like spinning up a jet engine, and having having no b-pillar was fantastic. The only problem with the 8 was that it looked faster than it really was. Another 200hp and I might have kept it. I sold it a few months ago and now I'm on the hunt for a z4mc but I miss the 8 everytime I see one....
