Mac Gurus needed!!! Video Problem

Can anyone tell me why all the videos I play on my Mac seem slow and choppy? It's both sound and video. I'm running a G4 Powerbook and I have never had a problem until recently. Hopefully someone can help...

It would help to know what you are playing the videos through.

If you are running videos through iTunes read the recommended hardware. Last I checked it said something on the order of 2.0+ GHz and 2 GB of RAM, which you most likely don't have. I have two G4s, one with a 1.5 GHz processor and one with a 1.67, and neither played videos well on iTunes, but worked flawlessly with Quicktime.

I don't use quicktime, though, I use VLC

VLC is the best thing ever for video playback. If you search hard enough you'll find out how to add your iTunes registry to VLC so you can play videos you downloaded through iTunes.

I am experiencing trouble with youtube vids on the forum and from their site directly. Does this help with the answer?

Yes it does. If you're having trouble streaming flash and you're getting dropped frame rates it's not a graphics card issue it's a browser issue. Safari is notorious for this, which I'm guessing is what you're using. Cache gets plugged and creates a freakin' bottleneck.

Download Firefox and you shouldn't have the problem anymore. Alternatively, you could just keep resetting Firefox every few minutes but that's no fun.
