Anyone have any clue about when the convertibles will go into production or be release?

Most likely it will be introduced in Geneva (= March 2008), same as for the 3 series: coupe in September, convertible in March.

I just hope they combine it with the M-DCT; that's the thing I'm waiting for.

The M-DCT will be premiered on the M6 CSL concept in Frankfurt this september. You can then expect the M-DCT to be available on the M3 from March next year.

What is M-DCT?

Also, assuming they introduce it in March will it then be available around 6 months later for purchase. Like around August of 08?

Read this thread: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66175.

Assuming 3/08 production start, it should be go into US production concurrently, so I would assume 5/08 delivery start.

A source w/ BMW has told me that The Cabrio M3 will be launched early November either in LA or Detroit.
Both Coupe and Cabrio and gearbox options will be available for the North American market simultaniously ....this is still on for Spring 2008.

I'd strongly bet against a simultaneous US launch of the coupe and convertible. You didn't mention it but it sounds like you would bet for a simultaneous coupe and sedan launch as well? Again, I'd say it will not happen that way. Coupe, followed by sedan, followed by vert - I'd place $ on that.

Tranny: I think there is a chance that the M3 coupe will be available with 6MT and M-DCT from the time of initial US availability, but not a great chance.

So that leads me to the question: Who is your source or if you can not identify them what position do they hold?

Really? I'd place money on the convertible coming before the sedan.

I am currently in South Africa working on the first promo shoot of the M3 Cabrio ( we go to Scotland and other country over the summer)

The Cabrio will be launched early November it looks like it might debut in LA or Detroit , The 1er Cabrio which I go onto after M3 Cabrio will also debut at a US show.

Both Coupe and Cabrio and gearbox options will be available for the North American market simultaniously this is still on for Spring 2008.

BMW are now working on making the cars USA friendly.

This is truly excellent and exciting news especially given the quality of the source and especially for us DCT and cabrio folks! I think this is worthy of a new topic but will leave that to you as you see fit. Thanks again, made my day!

It would be great to see botht he 6sp and DCT aviable for US launch. If the 4 door gets introduced i just might pick that over the coupe...

That's what I meant.

But now it seems the only good bet is coupe+vert simultaneous followed by sedan. Someone really needs to make this claim from Scott26 into it's own post IMO. HUGE NEWS, esp. confirmation of 6MT and M-DCT being simultaneous as well. Sure I have heard that rumored for some time but Scott seems like a very good source.

Hello ,
As I always said from the beginning the reason why you see so many prototypes of the M3 in the USA is because between now and the deadline before production begins at the end of the year. Is that the cars are being made US ready first .

The target release date for the M Transmission for Europe is Spring 2008 , The same time the M3 goes on sale in the USA. The time is not coincidental as both options of transmission will be available for launch with the car in it's launch date of Spring 2008.

I have been informed that the M3 Cabrio will debut at either Los Angeles or Detroit , it wont be Tokyo as the official media release happens mid-late November. The M3 Cabrio will arrive @ in the US the same time as the Coupe.
This is also expected to be the same as the BMW 1er Cabrio arriving in the US alongside the Coupe.

Whilst the first phase of filming and photography has been completed in South Africa we move to the next phase of film and photography in the exceptional scenery and fantastic driving roads in the West of Scotland.
That will happen this month providing current events in Glasgow do not cause us to reconsider. Then we do the third phase (August) and then begin to piece everything together.

The sedan will be filmed in November with scheduled release for late January 2008, The M3 sedan will be shown alongside LCI of the BMW 3er and BMW 3er Touring which will Be officially launched in @ Geneva 2008.
The M3 sedan will arrive in Europe early Summer with US sales arriving in the
4th quarter of 2008.

The only models left to show off this year apart from updates include :
The BMW M3 Cabrio , BMW 1er Cabrio and the BMW X6.
2008 however is all about the 7er.
