Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but alot of us Canadians have gotten recall notices in the mail that if our car has PS2's and was shipped in the winter months, we need to go to the dealer to get the tread inspected for cracking. Apparently, if the tire reached a temp of -35 celcius, the rubber compound on the PS2's may have experienced cracking. Maybe this is why they have changed to conti's?

How do you drive PS2 in the winter anyway??? It's way warmer here in Colorado and I switch to my Pirelli Soto Zeroes in October. The PS2 are like snot below 40F. Heaven help you if it's wet also. They're clearly a summer-only tire.

Picked up my car this weekend and it has sport contact III's. Compared to the PS2's on the demo car I drove 4 months ago I would say that the Contis do not have the ride quality and are quite noisy at highway speeds. I may switch to Pirelli P Zero's if this does not improve....

4-months is a long time and tires don't "improve" by waiting. You need to get into the dealer right away and drive a demo M3 back-to-back to really hear and feel how serious it is. If you complain in the first days of ownership, your odds of getting something done by the dealership, like switching some tires off another car, are much, much higher. Waiting a few weeks will ruin any chance that you might have had. When I drove the Contis at the Advanced M-School I didn't notice much difference. Of course, we were at race speeds, but I didn't really feel anything. Driving exactly the same routes in your car and then a demo with PS2s will tell you the real story. Enjoy your new M3. Dave

You do not drive the PS2's in the winter...but if your car was delivered in the winter then it was in transport in the middle of the ocean and then on rail in very cold conditions with the PS2's on...this is what they are worried about with the PS2 rubber.

Did you opt for the optional 19's on your sedan?

I was at the BMW Dealership (in Toronto) and all the M3's seemed to have Michelins even on the 19s

Have E90 delivered 7/9/2009 with Contis. My reaction so far, as I am still in the break-in period for the car, is "lots of road noise". I would have preferred PS2s from the standpoint of less road noise.

I think al lot of people are upset just becasue the name "Michelin" carries more prestige than "Continental". I have driven both tires on tracks in stock M cars, and I feel the Conti is a better tire. If you compare the materials and construction between the two, they are extremely similar, but IMHO, performance and cost wise, the Conti's are better. They seemed to withstand higher temperatures longer, thus delivering more consistent lap times during 20-25 minute sessions and over the weekend overall. If my car came with the Conti's, I'd be happy.

I went and paid my car a pre-delivery visit yesterday, it has Michelins on it (18" wheels) and an ashtray!
