No kids = coupe
Kids = E90

All depends on what you intend to use the car for. For me, I bought an E90, because I have a 14 month old. He rides in his Recaro ProRide car seat. LOL

Have the x5m for that though. I have teenager. So technically more room the better. Just don't know which will lose more value in terms of dollars. Given that naturally aspirated v8's will be said n done too. I love the sound of v8 -v10's personally.

what does "build up" mean when talking about the e90 m3?

So, if I am reading this right, you are asking if an 06 m3 comp pack or e90 m3 (within 5k price of each other) is the better choice?

For a DD, and in general, having owned both, I would never go back to the e46 from the e9x for many reasons. Though I do still love both cars.

How much work needs to be done to the E90 is the question?

I tend to agree on the comment on not going back to e46. Just feels like there's more you're missing. As far as e90. Coil overs-or springs wheels, spoiler, diffuser, trunk, exhaust. You know-all out

I love the sound of the v8 an I can't ever replace that sound with anything else. I have an x5m and would LOVE to have an e90 m3 too
