What about the BMW M3 GTS? Not special edition enough?

Good luck BMW, I hope this all works out and that next gen car better be damn good. Excuse me, great.

Shadowline exterior trim has been standard on the E92 since day one.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the dollar continues to weaken compared to the Euro, so in order for BMW AG to get the same amount of cash in, they need to charge us more.

Take a look at the 5 year chart...http://************/7pga7hk
If anything the dollar will continue strengthen given this Europe debacle... Anyways, you can be sure that BMW and most other auto manufacturers hedge against short-term currency fluctuations. The price increase is more of a "because we can" sort of thing and/or inflation reasons.

To be honest guys I am looking forward to the next coupe (m4?).
Being more fuel efficient and more low end get up than an 8k rpm v8 would make it my perfect dd. Not to mention it would be faster in general as well.
The current v8 just drinks too much and wouldn't make my trafficy commute much fun.

It is very difficuly to make something like the M3 even better then it already is.

What else can one say and yes the new generation M3/M4 for 2014 will be fantastic only it will not be a V8

You are absolutely correct. Fiat currencies are loosing value against tangible assets/goods.

The exchange rate between USD/EUR is just a factor of who's printing more money or monetizing more debt faster. In the end, they're all loosing value fast in the debt based monetary system we live in today.

Jason,

How firm is your evidence regarding the 2014 M3?

I am going to throw my estimate out that the next gen M3 will debut at autoshows next summer/fall and then show up in the US as a 2015 model.

I say this based on historical evidence...

US spec E36 M3 1995-1999 -5 yr run (6 in Europe 94-99)

2000 model year- No M3

US spec E46 M3 2001-2006 -6 yr run

2007 model year- No M3

US spec E92 M3 2008-2013 -6 yr run

2014 model year- No M3

Just my guess but its how BMW has done business in the past.

Jason

You could Priority 1 Singapore Grey from the new M5 (or any of the other M5/6 colors) if you wanted to spend the money. Don't let your dealer tell you "no." If there's a will there's a way.

Good point but things are slightly different this time as the M3 sedan will debut first. So you're most certainly right that there won't be a 2014 M3/4 Coupe but there'll be a 2014 M3 Sedan.

Best regards,
south

You are both correct... There is a 2012 gap for the sedan and there will be a 2014 gap for the coupe

I believe all M3s are made in Regensburg, but the 11th digit of the VIN will tell you for sure:
