Before I placed my order, I was taken to the rooftop at my local dealership where there was an Alpine White and Mineral White Metallic car next to each other in the sun. Mineral white looks shinier, but the color has a slight yellow or cream to it. Alpine white looks more like a pure white. I'm sure most won't notice the difference, but I deal with color every day in my job so I have senses for that kind of thing. Mineral white does look like a more expensive paint job. The difference is similar to comparing Jet black and BSM.
As an owner of a mineral white 335i, I can tell you there isn't any yellow to it. Infact, according to bmw the Alpine White has a yellow shade to it. Pure white is like the Ibis white you find in Audis.

AW - some yellow hue
Mineral White - silver flakes (hence metallic color)
Brilliant white - flakes of green, blue and red in it to give it a metallic look (this according to a brialliant white M3 owner on this forum)

You're probably right as far as the paint colors mixed in. I'm just giving my comparison based on seeing both of them side by side in the sunlight. Alpine white looks more like a pure white when they are side by side. I could grab some pantone color chips to really compare whites, but I don't really care that much.

Here is a picture I took with a Alpine white 335i (on left) next to a Mineral White Metallic 335i. I think it's hard to tell the difference at a glance from a distance. The metallic flakes in MW diffuses the sun's reflection (e.g., compare the sun's reflection off the bumpers of the two cars). Up close the metallic is obvious. I've included a closeup shot of the paint next to a X-Rite color checker (18% gray) for those that want to calibrate their monitors. Unfortunately the images here seem to get compressed significantly so quality is a lot lower than the originals.

Anyway, color is a personal choice but I liked the Mineral White better so I ordered my 2011.5 M3 Convertible in this color.

I put this in the Alpine Vs. Mineral thread, but thought it could be useful here as well since this is the official Mineral White thread.

I drove down to a local dealer over here that had an e93 mineral white m3 so I could get an idea of how it will look on my future e92 I just ordered and it happened to be parked next to a 335is. These are iPhone pics and they don't really do it justice, but they'll suffice. It was a cloudy day so I managed to catpure shots in the shade as well as direct sunlight. I've noticed that the mw looks brighter than aw in the shade, but in direct sunlight the aw is brighter. First time seeing a 335is, looks pretty great actually.

Overcast:

Direct Sunlight:

Can't really go wrong with either color!

Excellent car with excellent color.

I went in the dealer where you got your MW M3 today and was about to place an order for the same color. The salesman told me that a matte black competition edition with all the options is available at the dealer right now. I am not too crazy about the matte black but it does make me think twice before I place the order.

I have few questions for you and will pm you shortly.

When you look at them side by side, you have to wonder why anyone would want AW over MW

You would have to change your name from Sedan Clan to Coupe Group!

It's the opposite of this. MW has a beautiful deep sheen to it. It's a richer colour. Seen side by side it makes AW look a little flat.

I'm in the UK. Just ordered my MW over Coral E92 M Sport. Can't wait.

how is to live with that paint?

looks great, but if you have to clean it all the time, it kind of defeats the purpose for me.
I was thinking to go for Spacegray .. but I'm wondering if Mineral white is not a way to go. I've seen one (not sure if was MW or AW, but I though it had a bit of metallic feel to it) and was looking great!.

regarding the colors .. havent seen them for direct comparison .. but since the AW is not metallic, it will have that kind of plastic look to it.. so in a way it will be more white overall, the metallic white will get darker at places depending on the angle you're looking at it, but at least will look not just like a toy color

paint is paint, there's nothing special about it. (despite what MW owners want you to think ) It's all about personal preference on how clean you want to keep the car.

this isn't matte frozen colors or anything.

Btw, scoll up on this page, there's comparison photos, MW is darker as it has the metallic luster/finish
