New Paddles Installed...
I decided to take a chance and I ordered some aluminum paddles from Creative Motoring via an Ebay buy-it-now ad. I figured for $90 I couldn't lose, well, more than $90.
Install was uneventful as I was already familiar with the procedure to remove/reinstall the steering wheel. I lollygagged a bit and it took me 20 minutes start to finish. I was tempted to go with carbon fiber but thought the aluminum went better with my current interior trim. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive alternative to some of the higher end brands. Side by side comparison. View from the back Installed!

Love it! Does the wheel have to come off to install?

I just installed these in my car about 2 months ago, they feel so much better compared to the OEM ones. You don't have to take the steering wheel off to install these. All you have to do is remove the airbag, unscrew the paddles, disconnect them, and they will slide out the back of the steering wheel. Just make sure you don't lose the little metal balls (can't think of the name) inside when you take them apart.

Ditto what Datsik said. Since I was only one bolt away from having the wheel off I figured I would do that which allowed me to do the work on my bench.

Can you take a pic where your air bag release slots are on the wheel? Yeah, I've seen other posts, but they don't seem to line up with mine somehow...

I don't think I can take pics any better than those I've seen in other posts. Use your finger tip and press around back there and you'll find the holes. Or wrap a piece of electric tape around a medium flat head and gently poke around.

Yep. I took the wheel off because I thought it was honestly easier to work on it on a bench than to mess with it still installed. You can do this without removing the wheel though, no problem. Either way you need to follow the airbag removal DIY.

No. Just the paddle assembly in the back. It's pretty obvious when you get in there what you'll need to do.
