Choices

Hello All

I've been on the M135 forum until now but I've got the "M" (ish) bug.

I've been wanting something white and looking at an M3. I've narrowed it down to two both have usual great spec.
But one is a 2011 with low miles and the competition pack and black interior. The other is a 2012 with nearly 35k but is one of the 500 edition models with the red interior.

Question being which is the 'better' spec. Does the limited edition outweigh the mileage and comp pack?

I'm new to M3s. Drove one first time yesterday and loved it. NA is great.

Any comments suggestions, warnings would be great?

Phil

When you say "red interior", are you referring to Fox Red...extended? So, is the glove box and everything red, or is it black and just the seats red? I have Fox Red on Black seats, which pretty much means that just my center seat cushions are red, while the black surrounds them. Also, there is red in my door cards, surrounded by black.

At any rate, and interior choices aside, if I were you, I think I would personally be more tempted by the earlier lower mileage competition package one. If warranty is a concern, just buy an extended one. You will find many different opinions around here on interior and exterior colors, etc. Good luck!

I don't think one is especially better than the other...in any case the price should reflect any difference in value. I tend to agree with the guy above and would go for the low mileage one - As long as it comes with a proper one years BMW warranty (which you ought to extend every year.) Note that despite manuals being quite rare in the UK they still tend to be worth less than a DCT.

I'd get the 11 - lower mileage and better options.

Edit:

I made the same move, 135i to M3, and couldn't be happier!

There is nothing special about the red interior. Get it only if you like it.

Is there anything different between 2011 and 2012 models?

Not really, no. With the exceptions of two-tone interiors (like the one you described) and the 'edition' models.

Hey all

Getting the 2011 with 15k subject to agreeing the deal. Never really looked at mineral white before but it's awesome. Really nice in the sun.

Thanks for the input.

That's good to know. It was actually in the show room when I went down and was gleaming. I then asked to take it out to drive it (not unreasonable but they weren't keen to let me anyway) and when I got back it was covered in all sorts and looked like it needed a wash again. So good to know its easy to keep clean. Which wax do you use on it? Thinking of getting the swissvax wax for white cars. Any views?

Roll on Saturday morning! Will be sad to see the M135 go as it's wicked. But the Mrs won't let me keep both.

I've been using a couple different lines, but I'm finding that Sonax products really work well considering the price.

I use their paint cleaner, nanowax, the detailer and the quick wax. Their wheel cleaner is also very good, buy it in bulk, you'll need tons of it LOL.

Congrats! I just got a MW 2011 myself. I didn't really pay close enough attention to the pictures, and thought I was going to look at an Alpine White. Once I saw it in person it took a few mins to grow on me.

You too! I've never had anything other various shades of blue bmw before. But this colour has really got me on the M. You need to look at it a bit to see the metallicness of it but once you've got it it's lovely.

38 hours or two sleeps to go! Already booked a table at a nice place (a long way from the dealer) for lunch on Saturday and planning a surprise weekend away for the missus at the other end of the county the weekend after! Lol.

I think many US members here don't realize that the Edition model in the UK is more than just a "red interior". Besides being limited production, it also had revised suspension, special paint colors (i.e., Dakar, Monte Carlo), interior trims/center console finished in a matching or contrasting paint color, and black-chrome accents on the kidneys, wheels, side-gills, exhaust tips, etc.
These are subtle upgrades, yes, but perhaps the Edition model might warrant more desirability in the UK market in the future.

So your answer comes down to your ownership habits. If you're planning on modifying the car and giving it a daily beating, i'd take the "regular" 2011 with comp. pack. If you're keeping the car mostly stock, OEM+, etc. then the Edition model might be a good choice.
Still, unless exclusivity & collect-ability is a factor, I would give the edge to the 2011 comp. pack because of the lower miles and a late model 2011 is identical in spec to a 2012 given they are optioned the same (see below).

Depends on the build date. MY2011.75 is virtually identical to MY2012.

From my previous post:
The MY2011 ran from March 2010~September 2011
Various changes throughout, although very miscellaneous to most.
But as a prospective buyer, you should know the differences.

03/2010~08/2010: 2011
-E92/93 gets LCI tail lamps (E90 already got LCI lights as of MY2009 09/08 build)
-Competition package (ZCP) added as an option for E90/92
-Mineral white added as a color option for post 06/2010 builds.

09/2010~02/2011: 2011.5
Many threads reference the 2011.5 as the "September Changes".
For the M3, this includes:
-Automatic start/stop function added
-Additional bluetooth & smartphone connectivity, including bluetooth audio streaming (Combox)
-The aforementioned mineral white paint option
-18-inch Style 219M/260M alloy wheels receive bright silver finish in place of Ferric Grey finish
-Manually-adjsutable front seats introduced on E90/92 (USA only)
-Bi-color Novillo leather upholstery in two different combinations (Palladium Silver + Black or Fox Red + Black) offered for E90/92 (USA only)

03/2011~09/2011: 2011.75
-BMWApps/BMW Connected Drive added to the iDrive (6NR)

The 2011.75 is essentially a 2012 in all but name. The 2012 has the same specs as the 2011.75

Good question.
I'm wondering as well. Technically it should work since 6NR = BMW apps, but who knows, maybe they found a way to screw those with 2011.75's

I had the 135 18 months. I wonder what the record for the quickest 135 to full fat M is?

Can you get apps retrofitted does anyone know? Never bothered about it before but the go pro looks fun.
