hit 80k

80k miles, engine runs perfectly. Oil every 5k and great care. Warranty to 100k. Should I replace bearings or weight untll 100? Or wait until I hear them? No actuator or idle control piece ever broken either and wondering if I should change those early along with a water pump and tstat ? Radiator and entire Ac system changed at 65k

I would wait til the warranty is up - you might get a new engine.

I just got my rod bearings done last weekend at 58,XXX miles for my 09'. Turns out it was at the point where it would have started doing damage to the crankshaft. However, I don't have a warranty so it was a good investment as I plan on keeping the car past 100K . If I had a warranty like yours I wouldn't have worried about it.

How much did it cost you to change them?

I don't want to read this as a new E92 owner. Is this a problem on the early E9X's like it was on the early E46's ? Or is this a problem with all years?

Please do some searching and formulate your own concensus rather than clutter this board with more paranoia.

Wow, that was snippy. The guy just asked a question.

Wilsel - Yes, there have been reports of bearing failure and if you're curious there are several threads here that detail the debates and info gathered thus far.

58k miles is nothing in my eyes, sad to read mate. And you did proper oil change, warm up and all the rest..?
Cheers

+1

I just got my M and hit 76k so trying to map out what should be done. Thanks!

To OP - glad to see others keeping these cars for the long haul. My E36 I purchased with 145k and it has about 245k now and runs like a champ.

If your changing oil at 5k mile intervals (as I do) why not send a sample of each to Blackstone to get an analysis to track your bearing wear? They save the data and trend every aspect of your used oil including copper, lead, & tin which track bearing wear. Adds 25 bucks to every change but its well worth it.

Definitely start doing that on your next change if you have not already done so and go from there.

Yes it is and honestly I could have gone longer but it would have been the beginning of the end from what I observed. There were multiple previous owners so i had no idea how the car was treated.

I have only owned the car for 3 months but I know better to warm up the oil before getting aggressive with the car. I keep it below 3.5k RPM until the oil reads around 200F. But then again I'm never really hard on the car anyways - plus I will be changing my oil every 5k miles. Now I have the peace of mind to drive the car how it is supposed to be driven (with proper warmup of course).
