Lying down while driving is pretty funny... but I have a serious reply.

When instructing, I always target seating position and hand position first with novices. I recommend having the bottom cushion in a place where the pedals are easy to locate, with knees bent comfortably, then have the upper seat tilted forward so that with shoulders still on the seat back, the driver can place their wrists on the top of the steering wheel while having bent elbows. (this allows for maximum rotation of the steering wheel without removing your hands)

Being upright prevents seatbelt submarining scenarios.

Adjust steering wheel up/down, to see all gauges, and in/out to afford those bent elbows.

Hand position is at 9 and 3, and use the thumb pads instead of looping your thumb around the wheel, to both allow better wheel articulation and prevent broken thumbs in case of an accident.

Lastly, I always recommend shuffle steering, as apposed to hand-over-hand. It keeps both hands on the wheel, and if seated properly, you can be just a rapid as hand-over-hand, without being in a situation with only one hand on the wheel.

OP, do your passengers ever tell you that you snore? it could be sleep apnea and I would see a doctor ASAP.

It's silly how much I laughed at this.
