The space on the left is for the compact spare tire and the one next to it is for the jack

One of the slots (upper left) is for the moonroof tool in case it fails and you need to manually close it. If your car does not have a moonroof, you don't really need this tool.

The slot in the middle is for a double sided open ended wrench (8mm and 10mm, if I remember correctly)

When I picked up my car back in 2009, I told my dealer to fully populate the tool kit as I have a moonroof. They ordered the tools free of charge for me.

There is also supposed to be a flashlight in the glovebox. The dealer got that for me as well free of charge.

I don't like how BMW is getting all cheap with a lot of things. My E36 M3 had about twice as many tools and the glovebox flashlight.
