Yes but i'd bet not one person on this entire forum would've been eligible to buy one at that price (640-650) nor were you allowed to sell it for a year. It weighed 800lbs less, can't be driven everyday realistically and could just "edge" out the McLaren straight line or road course.

SLR's and C-GT's were on the lot with negotiable prices into their production, mainly the SLR. Any one person could win the lottery and go pick one up for their sticker and there were quite a few guys driving them daily at the gold courses around Atlanta

Well it's cool they can actually be driven most of the time without major exotic issues.... but I just don't like it. Never have, never will. Plenty of better cars for better money.

By the way, I love your username... no home.

Seems to me the GT and the SLR were pretty close. The SLR is a little heavier and with more luxury features but essentially as fast. How could you not classify the SLR as a supercar? Now, I would take the Porsche in a heartbeat on looks and tranny alone but the SLR is clearly a supercar based solely on the relative performance shown in those videos. Clarkson seemed to love it... maybe not as much as the P car but there are few that compare to that beast in any era.
I guess i may be reading between the lines a little more than you.

Why are people knocking the SLR. And why are people comparing it to a gtr and a 458. The SLR is almost 10 years old and can still compete with the very best of cars coming out today. 3.7 seconds in 2003 was blistering fast. The SLR is also one of the most revered hyper cars to come out in the past decade. Regardless of
Money and speed it's still a phenomenal car case closed.

Doesn't even have a proper name - that's a part name, not a car name lol.
I remember that review. What the f**k was that? Everything looked wrong! Maybe they fixed things after that review? Because every car magazine/show loveeeeees the fax machine.

The SLR is now I believe around 200-250k...

No one was arguing that but me. Only one person, really. And no, the SLR doesn't really hold its own to the cars of today. The interior, style, tracking abilities are not as good as its contemporaries from 2003, and they're only as good as the SLS AMG of today. The SLS costs less, has less power, a little less weight, a far better interior, gullwing doors, much better exterior looks, and is just a better car in almost every way.

Case closed...

Even the much maligned SL65 Black Series was a better car.

Have any if you driven an SLR? I don't mean a test drive either. I was a certified AMG specialist for my last dealer and had the privilege of driving an SLR and the SLS numerous times for extended periods. The SLS makes the SLR feel like a boat but that is what happens when you compare a 10+ year old hyper car versus modern day hyper car. I don't see anyone cross shopping a GT-R and a SLR/SLS. The GT-R is a scalpel. The SLR/SLS is a machete. Different strokes for different folks. Regardless of what you drive, there will always be somebody out there with a faster car. Period.

That's a good point. I wasn't cross-shopping the GT-R. But it is the car that comes up in any conversation of fast/quick cars.

The SLS may make the SLR feel like a boat, but that's because the SLR was a boat, hahaha. At damn near 3900 lbs, it was a heavy hypercar.

I'm glad someone could backup my beliefs that the SLS was just as good, if not better in many ways, as the SLR.

I would take an SLS any day all day over an SLR and an SLS is very low on my fantasy $200k car pecking order.

It might be old now, but I like it more than any of my cars.
