the only thing my friends with m5's complain about is how much their gas bill is every month!

M5, if you want the bigger car. I would've, but I live in Germany, and ironically, I need an AWD.

I would definitely walk away from the 335. It will be immediately worth less than what you will have to pay for it because of the accident. That is a very easy decision IMO. While I love the M5, I am not sure that I would want to own one of those either. It is a blast if you are driving it fast everywhere, but there are some serious downsides.

The SMG is very well suited for this car, much more so than the 6mt. That said if you are trying to drive it slowly it will be annoyingly jerky. The v10 is amazing, but I would expect to get half the MPG you are getting with the 335. It is really a compromise of a car. It is amazingly fast and the v10 is truly remarkable but it isn't at all practical other than it can seat 4 people comfortably. Also something to consider is that this car has tanked in value. At 50k it may seem like a great deal right now, but it will continue to tank simply because of the nature of this car (expensive to maintain, terrible fuel economy, marginal styling IMO).

If I were to spend 50k on a car, I would go a different route. You can pick up some great new cars for that much. I don't want to completely discredit the M5, but I would do some serious research before buying one and determine if it is really a car you want to own. For what it's worth I have spent a great deal of time behind the wheel of two different M5's and it is just an absolute beast, but make sure you are well informed of the compromises upfront.

If you are looking at spending $50k, I would get a newer E90 M3. The gas prices will have you in pain with the V10 M5 (although the M3 won't be that great either). Also, to some people its not a big deal at all, but you will obviously have the older body style (albeit 2010 is still rather new). As Icrain said above, the M5 has dropped significantly in price (V10 gas mileage, older style now, etc.), so from a financial aspect, it might not be the best choice.
At least with the M3 you are getting the last NA M car and a car proven to be reliable despite being a beast.
With all of that said, every time I see an e60 M5 I fantasize about trading my M3 for one, but then I remember how sexy the e9x M3 is.

x2

200-300 with the N52

800+ with the AMG

Same Commute...

-----------------

BMW Brakes (325i): All around pads + rotors: Roughly $500

AMG Brakes: All Around pads and rotors: Roughly $3200

--------------------------------------------

Maintenance cost will be ridiculous in comparison, I know it's M5, but just to give you an idea...

Not an easy choice. Do you really want a 2010 M5 though? Although a nice looking car, that bodystyle has been around for quite some time now. It definitely looks "older" than your current 335i.

And there aren't many CPO'd M5s around. I counted 11 on cars.com.

Don't even think about buying your car off lease, one of the advantages to leasing is the ability to walk away from an accident car, you'll get killed on resale.

First, I will give back the bimmer that was in an accident. It was in an accident so the Carfax will show it, your resale value will be very low. Also, it was in an accident, if it's not yours, walk away.

Second, I wouldn't buy an M5 except you can really afford the gas for it. Also, it is a beautiful car but is not cheap to maintain either.

If I would be in your place, I would look for a new 3 Series with a nice engine, whatever makes you fancy.

But if you are stuck between the two, than only because you had an accident, I will go with the M5.

Thanks a lot for all the thoughts and advice guys! hugely appreciate it.

The M5 and my 335i are weekend cars. I have a daily driver Honda.
PLus my 335i is fully modded and fully catless and wastes a lot of gas aswell.

Keep the advice coming thanks a lot guys.

50K....i say go E90 M3 or Z4 3.5 since its a weekend car. the M5 is nice but unless you are covered under full warranty its going to cost you a arm, leg and liver to maintain it when shit breaks.

Not sure if this was meant for me or the OP. My 335 was hit from the side, had about 9k worth of damage. I got a buy bid from a Porsche dealer several months before my lease was up, it was way below the residual. Title wasn't affected.

I thought of the E90 M3, the Z4 is too small.

My car is full bolt on, and ive beaten a bunch of M3's in straight line and driven many.
Overall, id rather stick with my 335i then get a e90 m3.

The M5 I want to get is under warranty and is Certified pre-owned.

Cert. pre-owned for how long though? I heard the SMG unit in the M5 is very problematic and the cost to fix/replace it is astronomical once out of warranty. If you are covered all around for a long time then go for it. The E60 M still looks sick with minor mods and the sound that thing makes is to die for.

I would get rid of the 335i but I would never consider the E60 M5. Way better cars out there in that price range if you do some research.

Why not another 355i? Why not an M3? Why not a newer 550? Why not (insert many of the better options out there)?

until middle of 2015.. Which is the only reason im thinking to go with it.

Plus, only major issues ive seen are smg pumps going and alike parts.

My 335i had a bad HPFP at 3K miles, then a injector gone at 28K, dealer replaced 3 injectors. Now im getting misfire at 29K on my other injectors, dealer has to reaplced coils and injectors.
Starting to become a headache with these misfire now. Otherwise car has been solid and reliable.
But engine wise, the M5 seems to be without many faults.

Thanks for the advice

I did... I want a 4 door.. And for 50K, not much with the performance/size and warranty.

Thanks for the advice!

C63, too small.. seems smaller then my E90, and interior is cheap!!
E90 M3.. Cant justify myself getting one since the power of my car currently so much overall better. And setting in one, seem so alike my E90 LCI Msport.
A used 2011/2012 550i, nice car but cant really bring my self to get one over the M5 performance stock over the 550i
Thanks for the advice!

This is my second 335i. Im done with them for now, especially if I get rid of this one. M3, as I mentioned, when I drive it and sit in it, reminds me of my current car too much, and powerwise is a downgrade for me. C63, like I mentioned is too tight and small inside and way too cheap interior.
new 550i is nice, but stock for stock, the E60 M5 performs better and is a M car.
Appreciate the advice.

Yea this seems to be a very important issue and something that might be the MAIN and MOST important reason to get rid of the 335i.
Thanks for the reply!
