2012 & 13 M3's have start/stop?
My M3 just arrived and should be picking it up this week. When I looked at it I didn't notice the off button that's normally above the start button.
The online builder (if I remember correctly) did show that it came with start/stop is the off button not located in same area as other BMW's with this feature? Anyone here have a 2012 or know? Thanks in advance.

It started in 2011 in the States I believe. My 2011 has it but it is off by default and how it stays. I've never used it. On our cars it's a small button slightly above where the ashtray would be and in front of the shifter to the right.

Yep Canadian M3's got it in 2011 and they are set to default and must be turned on to work, which is a good thing!

It makes sense that the M3 defaults to off.
The start/stop feature is linked to the break pedal and in an automatic car you keep the break pedal depressed until you want to move forward. In the DCT M once I've stopped I let go the break since its engaged neutral like a manual car so it would automatically restart the engine which is dumb and hence defaults to off.

After the 535i reaches a certain temp start/stop will engage when the vehicle is stopped, no matter how softly or firmly the brake pedal is depressed. The M3 (2012) is different. Start/stop will only engage if the brake pedal is firmly depressed. So if done correctly the M3 can be stopped with start/stop engaged without it activating. I do this all the time in stop and go traffic, and only activate it if I know for sure I'm going to sit for a while. |
