From Space grey to Frozen gray !
Question for the paint experts :
Frozen Grey Metallic mate finish is based on Space Grey Metallic. A special matte clear coat (FF95-0550) makes for the matte finish. I have a Space grey car and love the Mate Froze grey look.... would it be possible to remove te clear coat on my car and respray it with the special matt clear coat to end up with Frozen Grey metallic ???? Thanks in advance for all the info. Gr, Mark

Sorry, but to do this right, you will need a complete repray of the car. A better option would be look at the new paint protection films out there. There are options that you could put on your entire car that will give the matte look. The added benefit is that your paint remains protected and can be brought back to the original luster once you get bored of the matte or you decide to sell. Good luck.

Actually, if I remember right, this M3 started as space gray and was sanded and matte clear coated. It can be done.

Yeah, wrap it. Only way unless you do a complete respray (which will be upwards of $5k and I highly doubt BMW will sell you that paint)

I suggest you wrap it, it will look great.
Paint/ re-clear is too much work, too much money. I can offer you both jobs, therefore I'm telling you what's easiest, and cheapest solution. |

A friend of mine had a family member wet sand his 911 coupe. It was black. It came out perfect and it was easy to reverse it. (compound and polish the car).
I wouldn't say that you can safely do this more then once because there is only so much clear on the car and you remove it when you wet sand it. When he was done w his car, you couldnt tell the difference between a matt black lambo in my showroom or his wet sanded porsche regular black. They looked identical. |
