Tape for wheel weights?

I'm concerned about wheel weights falling off at the track (i.e. when the car is parking, immediately after a session). I've seen it happen.

Is there a special tape for that? Or should I just used this stuff?

I just use aluminum ducting tape from Home Depot. It seems to work.

Any metal base tape will work. I use Scotch 3M 2" Foil Tape. Works well.

Tried both. The weights migrate under the aluminum tape until they work their way out. A couple strips of gorilla tape is what works for me. Got lucky recently b/c one front wheel didn't need any weights! 1/2 Problem solved!
Bring both to the track and try them out. GL

Get a tire shop that uses the 3M weights. They don't budge once installed .

Trying find a good shop is hard enough. So can we buy those 3M weights from somewhere?

In my experience weights usually aren't "thrown" since the centrifugal force keeps them pressed against the wheel and rotation keeps a little bit of airflow going. It when you pull into the pits and the radiant heat continues to heat up the weights and loosen the glue... I've pulled in to the pits and hung out next to car and heard a weird "clink clank" and found the weights lying in the barrel or on the ground.

Okay that's what I meant just using typical terminology.

Actually the wheel troll eats them so your terminology is all wrong .

I've lost all of the inside weights on my 330. You do have to re-tape occasionally.

With all the shit the tires pick-up during a session, do the weights even make a difference to keep the wheel balanced in the end .

Tire balancing for track tires is kind of pointless, I don't do it and I don't know anyone that does it (I mean actually know, not internet-know). The tires pick up rubber, which throws off balance, and the tires rotate on the rim, as illustrated in Gearhead's post above. Save the money on balancing.

I don't tape my weights on street tires, and haven't had any issues. They're loud as hell now and have some rubber boogers etc. so I don't really know that I'm seeing any benefit from the weights anyway.

Rubber build up should only be felt when having run off line and you get in the marbles. After a brief time driving the track line at speed, tires should shed excess rubber and return to normal. I balance tires, have never experienced tire rotation on the rim, tape weights and inspect them prior to each event. One thing for sure, taping the weights will have no ill effect, and will most likely keep them on the rim.

I live in the center of 3 tracks. None are really far away but none are close. So I'd go crazy driving there.

Is it me or do you find yourself spending about 15 minutes picking those rubber boogers off your tires? Its better than picking your own nose!

Could this be an issue with how they're mounted? Is this more of an issue with the fronts or rears? What kind of tires? What kind of breaks?

And might those be a set of new Apex EC-7 wheels?

For my part, I am still stubborn and have my track tires balanced when I get them installed. If they don't use 3M weights, I will tape the weights down with Gorilla tape.

All this, and I am pretty sure it is useless. Tough to get rid of old habbits I guess .
