ive been looking and a 07 m5 can be had in the upper 50's. A 40k drop in one year can only mean a win for the buyer...
An 06 m5 can be had for high 40s or low low 50's... Keep in mind they all come fully loaded.. |

I had them both... I'd say go with the M5 for the price, if gas mileage doesn't bother you. If you want something more nimble, then go for the m3.

Don't forget about considering warranty. What is it 4 years? so if you get an 06, the warranty is over in 2010. Unless you get extended warranty or if you're planning on keeping it 2 years +, don't do it. If you do get extended warranty, I say get it.

I like a small sportier car like the M3, the M3 out sells the M5 here so resale is better on the M3. M5 to me feels and looks like a big car and I have one of those, a X5.

If all is equal then I take the M5. However do some research on the M5board regarding the issues when your warranty runs out on the M5. I get 4 full years with the M3 so that tipped the favor to the M3.

kind of unrelated, but my buddy is selling his 2007 M6 to buy and M3 coupe.
He drove mine and it was all over. He says mine drives more predictably and feels more like an extension of your self. Very tight, small, and controllable. He's afraid to throw his M6 into tight downhill turns like off-ramps where the m3, you just slam it in the corner. i would agree. |

if i wanted a 4 door car with lots of room, i'd go for the m5... if i dont need the room, i'll take the m3 coupe for its looks.
oh and there's always something special bout getting a brand new car.... but if you can get a deal on the m5, go for it!

If you are 40 and older have a wife and kids...it's a no brainer.
If you are single or just with a girlfriend...it's a no brainer.

I sold my 2006 M5 for a 2008 M3 E90 (DCT) and I have no regrets. With the new DCT gearbox, the M3 is faster than the M5 and definitely more nimble. This may not be true with 6 speed. The DCT is leaps and bounds better than SMG, the shifts are lightning fast in S mode and smooth as silk in D mode.
The M5 is roomier but really depends on your own physique and how often you have rear passengers. Both are good cars and you really can't go wrong but I think the M3 (DCT) just pips the M5. |
