Well done. Does the light go out when you shut the lid? Or is it on all the time?

It's on all the time (Edit: when any of the lights are on), but you can't see it with the lid closed, and since LEDs draw little current and last ~50k hours, it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the info. I guess it's not a big deal if the LED is on only when the parking lights are on as well.

It's important to have the LEDs in there so you can find your sunglasses when it's dark out.

Yes, should work even with wraparounds if they're not huge.

Interesting. I'm going to try this. I have the iPod connection kit in the center console, but I dropped my iPhone in a Jacuzzi 2 months ago and I'm waiting to buy the new one. God I miss it. For now I need the lighter socket for my old BlackBerry to be able to charge. The way the socket is in the center console doesn't allow it to close with any charger I've found .

Anyway, hopefully this will help me NOT lose my sunglasses (lost 3 high price aviators so far this summer dammit!). I think I need to be more careful.

On a different (strange) note, I hardwired my V1 to the fuse box at the garage door opener fuse... but my V1 doesn't turn off when the car shuts off... I actually verified I had the right fuse location with my dealer (they looked at it) and it is somehow powered when the car is shut off. I haven't had any battery issues or anything, but it's weird and I have to shut it off manually. And yes, the garage door opener works as well, even an hour after the car has been off...

Sounds like you used fuse 63, which I think is mislabelled, since if you remove fuse 63 the car won't even start. Try the other Homelink fuse -- fuse 7 IIRC. When hooked to that one the V1 only has power when the engine is running.

its wired when the car is off so that you can open or close your garage when you are either getting out or getting in you car before you actually start up.

Hi everyone,

First day posting here, but I've been reading m3post and e90post for sometime. Great info and discussions here

Quick question, can this be ordered and installed by dealer? and does anyone has the part number for #5 for the back?

Thanks

M

I was worried that the MDCT trim piece would be somehow different than in Greg's excellent pictures so I had the dealer install the spectacles tray prior to delivery. They didn't put the rubber tray bottom in right so I had to fix that but otherwise works great. My Ray-Ban Aviators fit just fine. I keep the case in one of the door foldout storage areas.

Yes, I asked my dealer and he said $210 + tax for it installed.

Oof, glad I only had to pay invoice price for the part and the dealer threw the install in for free.

adding some pics from my nonsmoker conversion today. there are already plenty out there, but i just wanted to say that this mod was a total bitch for me and i couldn't get that damn lighter out for the life of me. as you will see, i ultimately resorted to brute force and tore the shit out of it so that i could get the wires free. i also broke 2 of the 5 pins underneath the lid cover while trying to pry them free with the flat head screwdriver.

many of you are probably thinking i am retarded...which i might be. despite my experience, i would still recommend this mod, but be prepared and be patient. breaking the pins underneath really didn't make any difference because the three were enough to hold it down. you also have to be very careful about how you put the lid cover on otherwise the tray will refuse to lock closed. i couldn't figure that one out at first, either. but the end result is sweet and i took greg's recommendation for a 1/4" hole in the center for one of the LEDs. I just taped off the lighter wiring and let the other LED roam free.

also, for size issues, i can barely fit my glasses in there and they are Electric "OHM" glasses. the compartment is not as big as you think. oakley juliets should probably fit, but if you have some hollywood type glasses, you're out of luck i think.
