Intro----New guy
Hello all...
I guess I should start off by introducing myself as this is my first real post on the board. My love affair with M3's started about 15 years ago when as a newly licensed driver I discovered the e46 M3 and knew I had to have it. Unfortunately with reality as it is, the closest I ever came to owning one was about 6 years ago when I had the opportunity to take one on a test drive from a very cool salesman at our local Audi dealer. I happened to be driving by and saw it and just decided to go take a look. As fate would have it, there had to have been some kind of unspoken love for the M3 between us. He handed me the keys and told me to take a test drive. Even though I told him I didn't have any intentions of buying the car, he said, just be back in 30 minutes or so. As you can imagine, that was one of the best and quickest half hours of my life. Fast forward to today- I'm married and have an almost 3 month old son. I sold my truck a few months ago to save some money and pay stuff off with intentions of buying an e90 M3 in July/August/September and can't wait. I had been lurking on here a few months prior to signing up and just want to thank everyone for the education thus far and say that I can't wait for that first drive behind an m3 I can call my own. I'm going to be looking for a 08-10 with under 50k, 6MT, preferably Alpine White or Space Grey with a red interior. Must have options are sunroof, cold weather, premium or some variation of those included options. I really like how clean the dash looks without the NAV so I'll probably be looking for one without the technology package. I do have some questions about EDC that I'm going to post up in the suspension sub-forum incase I come across one pretty close to what I want that does have the tech package with EDC. It's good to be here and if anyone is in the Central Kentucky area and wants to meet up let me know! |

I like to read stories like this. Makes me feel lucky to own a M3. I tend to get bored with things too quickly....
Good luck with the search ! I hope you get your dream car soon! |

Thanks for the welcome guys. A 2011 will be out of my price range. A 2010 will be pushing it. It's my understanding that 2011 saw the upgraded nav, i-drive, lci, and competition package. I read somewhere that they fly wheel changed in 2009 but I haven't seen any other mention of that. I wasn't really looking for one with all the gizmos however I do like the lci upgrade. Is there anything else I'm missing by staying with an 08-09? Are there any other differences in the driveline?

I had an 08 E92 M3 and now a 2013 E92 M3 Competition Pack.
The looks are obviously different as comp pack is 10mm lower in ride height, M359 wheels. The i-Drive is newer but to be honest, you won't be playing with it much. Although it has a hard disk to store your music, I found it much more convenient to buy a USB and plug it in. All things being said, the only reason you would go with a 2010 or 2011 is for lower mileage cars with lower wear and tear. If budget doesn't permit, a 2008 will bring you the same amount of joy as a 2013. If you get a 2008, just make sure you update your ECU and DCT software to a newer version if it hasn't already been done by previous owner. Evolve, Alpine, BPM, etc can do it for few hundred bucks. I would not be concern about EDC failing. Aftermarket options are plentiful without coughing out too much coins. |

Congrats on the little one and good luck on your hunt! I've had mine almost two years, and have been loving every minute. As a dad (of three now), it's my "One Car To Do It All"!

Well...finding the right one happened a lot sooner than I thought but here it is....
Picked up in IL on Monday June 3rd on a private party deal. I could tell this car had really been loved, taken care of, and not abused. Got all the maintenance records from day one, window sticker, etc, etc... Seller was looking for the right buyer as much as I was looking for the right M3. Specs: 2008, Jerez Black, Fox Red interior, 6MT & every option checked. Picked up just shy of 46k miles. The interior looks brand new...couldn't be happier. This car is everything I thought it would be and more. I love it more every time I look at it, get in it, and drive it. The sound, feel and look is incredible. It really feels like you're connected to the car when you drive it...you can tell these M3's with the S65 have a lot of soul. Thought I would have some mods I would want to do when I got one but it's damn near perfect as is. Thanks for all the advise from the forum this far...couldn't have done it without you guys and everything I have learned here. And even though she won't see it...I need to thank my wife because she understood how long and how much I've wanted an M3 and helped to make it happen. Another Jerez brother joins the fold. Enjoy your new ride. My guess is that whatever you think of it now is going to increase by the day or drive. Also, much has been said about black, Jerez Black, but apart from the paint's chameleon characteristic which I like very much as do many others based on their comments, you won't see Jerez Black Metallic on any other BMW models as BMW kept JzB exclusive to the M3 which is something of an oddity in light of all the changes witnessed in Munich of late. Looking forward to you updating the thread with additional comments.

I am really happy for you man. You found an amazing specimen and I really enjoyed reading your post. Its great to know there's other people out there who enjoy the E9x M3. I just spent three hours washing mine at a coin operated car wash. Can only do it at this time of day since there are no cars and I can do a proper job. What an amazing machine and I know in a few years people will be looking to get into such a car like this, with a soul.
Enjoy her in good health for many years to come. I intend to do the same with mine too. But dude, post more pics

Congrats, beautiful choice!
I'm a new M3 owner as well, had mine for about a month. Can't get the grin off my face. Think about driving her all the time. These cars are a dream to own and I hope you have as much fun as you expect to have. |

Sweet car. Black is a classic color. Congrats. Nothing like having the windows down and hearing that V8. And a 6mt -- I may be biased but I think it's the way go to. Enjoy it.

Man I remember exactly first time I saw an e46mM3. Was 10 years ago to day and I finally got my brand new M3 2 years ago. For 8 years I was in awe every car I saw and than the e92 came and it looked so perfect. It has literally been as fun or more fun to drive every day even 2 years later. Especially with a cat less xpipe, its the closest thing to a full blown race car aside from Ferrari or lambo. But those get wat too much attention. M3 is subtle enough but 8700 rpms wailing away with cat less xpipe and it sounds redunculous !
