all that I can say about this is ...
... thank God I have a 6MT. My girlfriend causes enough damage to the car as is. If I had a dollar for everytime she has bumped the passenger side door into something concrete and solid I'd have ... well, 3 or 4 dollars. Haha. But you get the point. If she eats anything in the car, crumbs invariably end up everywhere. Just spent some $$$ getting that hand platinum wash? The passenger window is going down ASAP; water streaks galore. In a crowded parking lot for dinner? She wants it parked front and center in that tiny little please-ding-me spot with 1.5 inches on either side. It doesn't stop. Whoever said "no one gets or cares about your car as much as you do" was completely right. We're M drivers; we're notoriously obsessive for a number of obvious reasons I won't go into. I love my gf to death, but the thought of her driving around in my E92 is more than I can bear. Her not being able to drive manual is a nice little buffer that keeps the keys out of her hands (hint, hint - do your relationship a favor!) |

This thread is full of so much win!
Let's not forget how they close the door by the window to maximise hand prints. Oh and heels firmly stuck into your door sill because getting out and putting your heels straight into the pavement is too much work.

I drive stick because I love driving stick. I wouldn't make a decision based on my significant other not being able to use it. As others have said, one of the perks of having a stick is not everyone can drive it, whether it be your wife or your friends. That said do what you think will make you happy in the long run. Hate to stereotype but most women dont like to drive low, fast, loud, harsh cars anyways.

what you are doing is good putting the wife on an M3 is evil and beyond that if you don't get manual you will miss 50% of the fun. |

simple...if you have a business, insure the car under your business name and your wife cant drive the car, even if she wanted to...auto or 6mt....all MY cars are insured under the business and the cars (beaters) my wife can drive are insured under our family household...no arguments there...and i get what i want....occasionally, i will let the wife drive it, but under my policy, i have to be present....so win win here
at the end of the day tho, my wife really doesn't give a shit about driving..she'd rather be Driven...as long as it gets her to the malls, restaurants, places where i have to open my wallet...she's happy |

I got a 6MT so my wife COULD drive it. She hated my old M3 with SMG and lobbied hard for a 6 speed. Find a new wife...

How long do you plan on keeping the car? How long do you plan on keeping your wife? If you plan on keeping your wedding vows and staying married for life I would suggest making all of your decisions with that in mind. In the end, it is a car and can be replaced if something were to happen to it. Your wife is the one person in this world that you are supposed to put in front of everything else.
My two cents... |

What if she asks you to teach her how to drive a stick...in your new M3? ...if it comes to this find a rental that is a stick and have her learn in that...and BTW, get what makes you happy.
PS. My wife, who knows how to drive a stick, has never had any interest in driving the M3...and if she did, what's the big deal...again, your driving it a majority (if not all of the time), get what you want. Last edited by M5280RCR; 09-07-2011 at 02:32 PM.. Reason: additional thought |

OP, buy what you want. Another thought: let her drive it once. If she wants more, she has to get her own. Sounds like she can afford it!

And for the rest of you gents: it means the ladies have a MUCH better idea where the car begins & ends {ahem, wheels... curbs...}, not to mention what it can do. Which also means she might not give the keys back so readily.
