Swirled up BMW 3 gets fixed up for a new owner

You gotta see how the dealer deliverd this BMW 335 X Drive - swirl o rama!

Paint correction - also known as swirl mark removal or machine polishing, paint correction is the reduction or removal of marks in the top layer of paint to produce a more refined finish.

Paint correction will involve machine polishing and various grades of cleanser, polish, or compound. The majority of work is usually done with orbital or rotary machine polishers to get the best level of correction.

Great paint correction requires a high level of skill and concentration, but done properly, paint correction can transform the look of a car by dealing all the issues discussed above.

Reasons to seek out paint correction services:

- Road grime, grit, tar
- Bird crap, dead bugs, and tree sap
- Water spots
- Improper wash techniques and products used
- People brushing against the car with their clothing or bags
- Holograms and swirls caused by lack of proper training and techniques
- Automated car washes

All of the above can leave the paint of a car looking imperfect - dull, faded, and covered in various level of scratches (from light to heavy), swirls, and marring.

For most vehicles, paint correction really can make a substantial difference and will completely remove or significantly reduce most marks. Once the paint correction is done the results will display amazing gloss, depth of color, and slickness.

The customer of this BMW 335 had a budget in mind so here is what we were able to do for him.

We will remove
- 50 - 70% of deeper swirl marks.
- Remove etching from water spots and bird etchings.
- Remove and or reduce lighter scratches and marring
- Remove surface contamination
- Restore faded and dull paint
- Polish and bring back gloss and depth of paint

Will not remove the all swirls, or deep scratches. We will not be fixing rock chips at this level either.

Products used on this job:
Nanolex Prewash Concentrate
Nanolex Wheel Cleaner and Iron Remover
Nanoskin Autoscrub Sponge
Nanolex Glass Cleaner
Meguiar's M205
Sonax Polymer Net Shield
Nanolex Tire and Trim Restorer

Tools used:
Metro Air Force Blaster 8 hp
Rupes LHR15 MKII
Rupes LHR75E
Griot's 6 inch random orbital polisher
Meguiar's Microfiber Finishing Pad
Uber All Purpose MF Towels
Uber Classic MF Towels
Scangrip Multimatch Light

Before shots will give you a good idea of how bad this car was taken care of by it's former owner.

Wash/Decon/Prep

Decon using Nanolex Wheel Cleaner and Iron Remover

Wheels also cleaned with Nanolex Wheel Cleaner and Iron Remover

Foam bath - using Nanolex PreCleaner Wash

Clay using the Nanoskin Sponge on paint and glass

Rinse

Metro Blaster 8 hp used to dry the paint and wheels

Imperfections

Severe flaws in paint

50/50 shot of the piano black trim on the BMW. Light scratches are quite common on trim like this, faded and dull, we fixed it using Menzerna SF4500 with an Uber Green Pad

50/50 shot of the rear quarter

50/50 shots on the paint

Rupes LHR15 MKII working some magic

Rupes LHR75E on the tight areas

The Griot's 6 inch comes out to play.

What sorcery is this?!?!

In all seriousness, excellent work . Any idea how the previous owner did so much damage to the paint?

Beautiful work! Is it ok to polish like this over a clear bra or would that ruin it?

typically you don't want to polish out your clear film, most manufacturers will tell you not to, for us we make sure the customer knows that it's a last resort type of deal, if this doesn't polish out we will need to replace it.

Super nice work as always! Great change from thrashed to better than new looking paint!

I have a scratch on my black trim on the M3 (sedan) too. I was wondering what to use on it. I'll give it a go with my new Rupes 15 and the equivalent pad/polish to what you used (out of my stock of stuff -- I have to use it up before I can get new stuff...).

sure thing give it a go. m205 or a finish polish should take it down if you are speaking of the piano black trim.

Depends. The piano black trim around the E series M3 will not polish out with 205, SF4000, or the like depending on the level of imperfection, example deep hard water pitting. In some cases, light 2000 grit sanding may need to be applied
