Manual, although I would gladly trade for a Dual Clutch Transmission-----as from my experience, they are far nicer in every way. I've driven manuals all of my life, and to be frank, the dual clutch is the way forward.

Yes I agree, my next one will be a M-DCT ... did have the SMG on my e46 and liked it. I just wanted to have again a MT for a spell like on my first e28 in 1987. I am restoring the e-28 right now and can always take her for a weekend spin

6mt for basically all the reasons already stated here by other 6mt owners.

I had an Evo X MR for 3 years and while the TCSST made me feel like a pro 100% of the time, getting those rare perfect shifts on my 6mt is still more rewarding IMO. I've got a feeling that my next car (years from now) will be a DCT as MTs get more rare and I get more lazy...

+1

Every car (there have been many) I have owned since 1986 has been a manual. BMW, Mazda, Isuzu, etc.....

DCT rocks!

I won't go back - Too many benefits.

Well it seams what I read some time ago is true. The split as I read it is 50/50 when it comes to the choice of the transmission. This poll will close tomorrow and the result seams to be (as of this morning) slightly over 51% selected the DCT transmission while slightly less then 49% selected the 6MT for the car.

Tanks everyone that voted ... give yourself a hand

6MT for me. I got a 335i 6MT back in 08 but always really wanted an M3. Since then I test drove 4 M3's, the first three had the DCT and the fourth, about 6 months ago was a manual. Up until that last test drive I had every intention of keeping the 335i, now, I have an M3 sedan, 6MT waiting for pick up in Munich next week. I can see the attraction of the DCT. It's incredible technology that works but it just feels too clinical to me.

Bottom line is it's just simply more fun shifting a manual transmission in this car and had BMW not offered one in the M3, I wouldn't have got it.

Wow the split is incredibly close. I expected to see DCT far outweigh manual.

Good choice, enjoy your time at "Die Welt" I was there in May 2009 was very impressed on the layout and how friendly everyone was. Enjoy your car on your planned trip and make sure you have a nice meal at the Hofbräuhaus in München.

Safe Travels!

I just closed on my e90 m3, and chose 6mt

I personally use this car as a dd, with sprited driving done as much as I can. I do plan to take the car to the track a few times a year, but not much more than that.

I enjoy the challenge of the manual transmission and for me, makes the experience much more involved and fun. I tend to drive manual transmission cars harder, and pay more attention to driving than I do with auto/dct cars, even if they are high performance cars (997 turbo pdk, c63 amg, etc...).

I am not a race car driver, so I am not concerned about the "faster shifts". The only thing I wish I had from the DCT is the 7th gear and better gear ratios.

All that said, to each their own, but I am thrilled with 6mt...

Thumbs up 6MT was always the plan for me

My wife can drive a stick , her current car is a stick and as a matter of fact she even suggested I get 6MT . When I was ordering my E92 M3, my wife said to me "The M3 is a sports car you better get it in a stick " I was shocked at the fact she was already thinking the same thing I was thinking 6MT . DCT was never a option for me to have on this car .

I like to think of 6MT like a member on this post once said . "Your Not Driving Unless Your Feet Are Dancing and Your Hand Is On The Stick".

I love my 6MT

Interesting this Poll also told us the percentage of individuals that order there cars verses the percentage that goes shopping at the dealership to find there dream car ... Hmmmm,,,,, very interesting as Sargent Schultz (John Banner) in Hogan's Heroes used to mumble ....

If you did the same poll for just 2011 owners, I think DCT would be way out in front.

Perhaps you are right, only I like to think outside the box and leave no one behind

I went from 6mt to DCT, and honestly...if money is no subject, I would have two exact spec'ed M3s, one with 6mt and the other DCT.

DCT because I already know how to properly drive a manual transmission and enjoy the added benefit of of a DKG when it comes to circuit driving. DKG is the future... accept it.

OK, everyone can get by in a 'stick' (manual xmsn), but how many people out there can really work it? I tried teaching my ex-wife to heal-toe and it ended in fury... She could never grasp the concept.

I know David, I had the same issues with my wife and that is why our DD (MB C350 4MATIC) is a automatic.

My former M3 was a SMG I got this 6MT since I wanted to have fun with it

As I have stated here before the level of insistance on the superiority of manual transmissions tends to be inversely proportional to the level of skill at driving one.

Looks like this poll has slipped to page 2 of this forum ... does that mean that only 233 are M3 drivers? Just an observation on my part ...

What you think?
