I had a date with a Lovely 22 year old Today!
A 959 Porsche that is.Our boss decided to get our 88 959 back on the road so it can be driven or sold down the road. The car only has 7300 kms on it and is in great shape as you can see by the attached photos.I jumped at the chance to pick it up from being serviced and to have the chance to drive such an iconic car that only 200 examples were produced.Pretty cool to say the least!

The best analogy that I can use is
"Think of the hottie that was in your class in high school and 22 years later, you get to be with her and discovers things change a lot in that time" It is still a very special car but compared to a modern 911 TT it is extremly rough riding and not much suspension travel in the sport mode. The engine has serious power above 5500 rpm when the 2nd turbo comes on line but below 3500 is flat just like any 911 turbo of that era.I am pretty sure a modern 997TT would just blow it into the weeds on a road course or straight line. For a 1988 auto it is very impressive and it shows how far the normal performance car has come in 22 years. A lot more info here on the cars. There were actually 337 built not the 200 that I said earlier. We also have an XJ220 which only had 281 copies made. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_959 Last edited by Gearhead999s; 08-06-2010 at 04:10 PM.. |

man... that is automotive history right there. Wow. For a 22 year old car I'm sure it's still fast. But cars have come a long way in 22 years. If you compare that to a GT3rs or the new GT2 rs which is the latest and greatest from porsche today it wouldn't stand a chance. But then again you would never see another 959 on the road ever again it's so rare.

You have the internet going nuts with spots of you on the road with this classic.
Glad to see your boss getting her in shape for the road again and I hope to see her at least once. |
