Banzai Skydiving

Just curious how many skydivers are on this board, and if anyone has attempted to Banzai skydive.

I did it once, absolutely fucking terrified me. I did enjoy it once the chute opened but in the plane the seconds before i jumped, man, was shaking like a dog $hitting razor blades.

I have over 200 jumps and every one was a great experience. I recommend at least a tandem for anyone who hasn't tried it.

But a Banzai jump is simply reckless. I get the idea of an adrenaline rush but frankly jumping out of a plane without a chute fully harnessed to your back just makes no sense. If you want to kill yourself with purpose, try a winged suit instead.

///Rich (with most of my jumps in Orange Mass in the 80s. Their old Norseman made you want to get out of there in a hurry.

Still have video, on VHS, with Alphaville playing "Forever Young" in the background, of my first tandem jump from a perfectly good airplane with zero mechanical issues. Still a small tremor when I think of that event. Without the tandem pushing us both out, I would have safely landed INSIDE the plane, I have zero doubt.

Adding some adjective to the action of skydive, I'm sure I have not nor probably ever will perform such an action willingly.

Had to look it up. I think it's an awesome idea, would totally go for it. I would recommend you encourage others to do so also. Feel free to come down here and recruit a few.

Honestly I think we need MORE activities like this to clean out the gene pool a little.

It does get me thinking - 'what song would I want playing as soundtrack to the video of my death (or crapping myself - either is a hard one)?' Might make a good poll thread, if I knew how to do those....

If you were doing banzai - I'd say it would have to be:
Rick Astley - Never gonna give you up.

Be interesting...a new way to get rick-rolled (that people would actually watch)

i went skydiving once. i had a buddy from highschool that was back in town that was way into it. so he went solo, and i strapped a dude on my back. i wasn't nervous at all. it was kinda strange. i just didn't feel the hype. the instructor was acting all cautious and telling me it was going to be ok and all that... i was like, "i know, lets go do it."
it really wasn't exciting, to be honest. i enjoyed it, but i felt like i wasted $170. i'd do it again for free, but i felt like it is highly over-hype.
after the jump, the instructor and my friend were talking about the sport and the instructor nods to me and says, "this guy get excited about anything? he just jumped out of a plane and shrugged his shoulders." lol

I didn't think it was that big of a deal either. Free fall I liked but wasn't freaked out. I didn't like hanging once the chute was open waiting to be down though.

yea, the leg straps hurt. other than that, i liked it. the dude started spinning the parachute and i started getting dizzy so i told him to stop turning it. i was more interested in looking around than barfing for no reason.

what is probably more dangerous is the rickety old plane they cold start and hammer down the runway. probably way more likely for that pos to break and crash.

I did a few jumps at 10k and 12k feet. All civilians jumps with a instructor stuck to my ass. I found the free fall strangely calming and relaxing.

I have 200 jumps in my log book. Did some of them at Eloy AZ and some at Kapowsin WA. The rest in Spain and here in Denmark. I got tired of all the waiting for the weather to clear up which, even in summer, can be weeks around here. My freefall record i 375 km/h. I recommend it to everyone. Once the plane takes off, you leave all worries behind and have an awesome time. These days i use my motorbike for that

Went once. Im glad i did it (bucket list thing i guess) but no interest in going again whatsoever.

It was uncomfortable, my ears clogged from the rapid altitude change and didnt clear themselves for 3 days, the plane felt like i was going to fall through the floor, and i didnt like hanging from the chute (felt unsafe like i could drop at any second). Did i mention im terrified of heights? No thanks.

I'm a pilot. I'll stay in the plane even if it has no power.
