For all the naysayers about the lack of DCT, Tadge explains very well why DCT simply wouldn't work on it. Their new 8 speed auto is to match the best shift times of today's transmissions.

Manual is standart. Auto is optional. You can have your manual and save some money, i will pay for auto and see you at the track.

But, you must be the first DCT owner to call those paddle shifters stupid.
According to a corvette chief engeneer, 8 speed auto was specifically designed for c7 z06 to handle tremendous torque of that monster engine. Almost all performance engines come underrated from the factory, so should someone desire even more power, they want to make sure their auto tranny can take additional torque without blowing up.

they could have developed a dual clutch...chris harris has already said what a shit box the tranny is...wonder if they are the same.

doesn't get any worse than having an awesome car (power, suspension, etc) and then a shit box of a transmission.

and dont bring Manuel into this! he has crossed the border legally.

I personally don't give a hoot about Chris Harris. Some of his last few reviews have been totally out there. He hated on the miata. He hated on the 370z. And now he's hating on the C7 corvette. It seems he hates everything that isn't an overpriced and overrated Porsche

However, the automatic transmission in the Z06 will not be the same as the base C7 he drove. It's a bespoke 8 speed auto that Chevy specifically developed for the Z06, and that they claim actually shifts faster than the PDK on the 911 that gives Chris Harris wet dreams.

My point about it being offered in an auto isn't that autos are worse, but that manual transmissions are becoming extinct. The Z06 was one of the last bastions of loyalty to the stick shift. It has always been a true drivers car, and if you wanted to drive it, you had to know how to drive a stick. It was bad enough when Porsche made the PDK the only transmission for the GT3... but lately the Germans have been quick to sacrifice driver interaction for the sake of technology, so it was to be expected.

The day an automatic Z06 rolls off the lot will be a very sad day indeed.

Dct is great for performance but honestly you don't have a feel for the car and neither will you with an automatic. You're bonded with the car with a stick not some paddles. I love my M3 but I'm very excited to get my next car in a stick. Plus who wants to drive a muscle car with paddles

If you are talking about Chris's review of the automatic C7 Stingray, that is the old 6-speed automatic.

The Z06 is getting a brand new 8-speed auto specifically designed for rear wheel drive platforms. Which has been said by GM engineers shifts faster than a PDK.
