LoL, it was quite stopped, waiting on a siding for a westbound train. A quick snap while crossing the tracks

Last Night's Aurora
Further to my earlier post.
The skies did start to clear yesterday evening around 20:30, just in time for the light show to begin ! Here's one from last night. I quite like the spikes and mix of colours in this. I should add that although it was still very mild last night, it was blowing a gale ! Aurora 28 Sept 16 by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

Although my preferred kit for these shots is still my Canon 5D3 + 16-35L, this was an experiment with the Fuji X-T1.
Taken slightly earlier in the evening before the spikes started showing, and at f/4 for 26 secs, it has still produced a clean image. FXT11607 copy by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

Where were you in Iceland? We have a non-stop flight from Denver and was thinking of using it this winter to go over when the conditions are good for the lights.

I've often thought about going to Iceland but there are no guarantees with the aurora are there ? As we start to move away from Solar Max, chances of continuing good nights are diminishing. If you're going to do it Dave, do it this winter.

Awesome Northern Lights shots.
Especially Iceland one. Because Iceland. Godafoss is amazing, I can only imagine what it's like to see the Aurora there. What month was that taken, just curious, Vetsky ? |

That's what I'm thinking. I can get a flight at a decent price on short notice, so I thought that I'd watch solar activity this winter and book a flight when the odds look good.

Hey all,
I took that shot last November. I rented a camper van and drove all around the island, sleeping in the van on the side of the road. It was an amazing adventure. You just need to be lucky with the cloud cover during the winter. There were plenty of cloudy days. I took over 3000 images. Here is another shot around Vik. |

You are all so lucky to witness these! One day I will have to plan a family vacation around them.

From Pike's Peak, Colorado! My buddy's 6MT WRX which we drove 7000 miles from Miami to Seattle and (seemingly) every twisty mountain road we could find in between. Pike's Peak was of course a major auto enthusiast AND photographer bucket list item. There were also a bunch of camo'd BMW test mules and Mini test mules up there while we were there.

Had some fun at a car meet recently and had this accidental shot when we were wrapping up and leaving. Really liked how it turned out for no particular reason.
