Z06 vs. Challenger Hellcat.

This is incredible.

I wouldn't call it "annihilation" but that's one fast kitty cat.

in a straight line, HP and weight almost always win.

Now, throw both of them on a course track and I'm sure the c7 will win.

From the youtube comments, apparently the Z06 destroyed the Hellcat at the 1/4 mile track (where these clowns should have been in the first place). In my book, that makes the Hellcat the new MKIV Supra. "Let's race from a roll brah".

Yeah. Hellcat shines at roll racing, once the heavy thing gets moving.

The same cars lined up at the strip, the Z won there. Hellcat consistently trapped lower all day.

Thats where these "clowns" were...(link is in the 1st post)

http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...shoot-out.html

Completely, showroom stock cars at the strip (minus 2 guys bringing DRs). They didn't get the best times but showed consistency in trap speed and ETs. Track prep wasn't great but it wasn't the best weather either. I don't see how 4500lbs with 707HP beat 3500lbs with 650 HP. Yes, the Vette loses steam around 130 or so but the Hellcat pulled from the get go.

And rumors are saying a private owner just took his Hellcat to the mid 10 range with DRs.....but no video as of yet.

I was referring to the fact these morons were racing like that on public roads. The best thing about filming the idiocy is it makes the life of the prosecuting attorney that much easier when he nails these creeps for manslaughter when they take out a family just trying to get home.

Looks like they waited for a nice clear stretch of road, they did not pass anyone or come up behind anyone. Nobody was at risk from what the video showed.

No, it was a C7 Z06. Look at the side vent (or whatever you want to call it) on the front fenders. The C7 Z06 vent is way bigger than the Stingray.

The Z06 doesn't have much steam up top considering the Aero effects and granny ECU GM put in it. But the car does perform very, very well on the road course. It is funny reading how much hate people are giving to the car because it can't go fast in a straight line and look over its out standing handling attributes. But if it were to dominate in the straight line then everyone would be like, well it can't handle for crap because its RWD and American made......

All I want to see is a stock C7 Z06 with only a tune to get rid of the GM granny tune and see how it performs on roll runs.

Not impressed! For something with that many pony's, that thing should pull away faster.

Was the Z06 manual and Challenger Auto?
Only way this makes sense...

Yes Hellcat was an auto. Z06 only available in manual right now.

I was going to say "In before someone gets their pants in a twist over roll racing on a public stretch" BUT, looks like someone got self-righteous over that already.

Both of these cars are absolutely amazing, but purposed differently. Hellcat ought to blow away most anything from a roll!

Thanks for posting the vid!

The effect of the Z06's aero was a bit underestimated. The only reason people are shocked is because these characteristics are magnified as speed increases. Chevy did not under-deliver...they said the car will trap 128-129 MPH, and that has held true from actual runs. In time, you'll even see those numbers get better after drivers have more seat-time, conditions improve, one runs at MIR/Etown, etc. The issue most can't grasp is that if a C7Z is to race a car that traps the same or even a little less (i.e. Hellcat) from a roll, it will lose. A 1/4 mile trap-speed does not fully capture 120+ MPH acceleration characteristics. It's the same reason why newbies are shocked when they see a 140 MPH car put busses on a 150 MPH liter-bike.

On top of that, you have the overly conservative ECU pulling timing after a few runs. This is not material however, since most will tune. They're gaining 35-40 RWHP from a tune while still maintaining very safe parameters.

Regardless, not cancelling my delivery, and I was thoroughly impressed by it for the hour or so I've driven one.
Car in vid is a Stage 1 Aero Z06, so it is non Z07 package. That means the ground effects are barely more effective than Stingray Z51, and no where near as high as a Stage 3 Z07 I think you are referencing. Don't think aero can be used as an excuse, especially since the frontal area of the Hellcat is a brick

pulled a car or two then the vette lets off. Hellcat is fast! Would rather have the vette no questions.

It shouldn't have won IMO but it did so anything can happen.

Why you may ask? Hellcat is 4500 lbs and the C7 Z06 is around 3500 lbs. So even though the Hellcat has 57 more HP the 1000 lbs advantage the Z06 has should make it faster but obviously, that wasn't the case here.

It pulled like any other car that has 57 more BHP than another car.

BTW, I'd love to have a Charger Hellcat.

guess i am confused about this ECU talk. so the Z06 doesn't make the power or something ? or does the Z make the power, but GM left a lot on the table ?

I cant see why any car company would max out a engine from factory.

Some stock Hellcats have putting out 670+whp on the dyno. They are underrated. Nearly 100 hp to rear wheels more than most baseline dynos of the new Z06.

I've read about a few and they were dyno'd 620-642 rwhp. And C7 Z06s are the 560-580 rwhp range.

GM didn't tell anyone until the car was in the hands of its owners (and thought it was heat soak) but they have a very conservative tune on the car. It pulls timing and reduces power. Pushing the car full throttle will cause it to interfere. Vengeance Racing noted that when they got their car, dyno'd it and looked at the logs.

GM also said that after 500 miles or 1000, I don't remember, the car will be "unlocked" and the full potential will be unleashed. Though that doesn't seem to hold true right now.
