Black soot under oil cap? Normal?
I noticed today that there is what appears to be a bunch of black soot on the bottom of my oil cap. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether this is normal and, if not, what would cause it. My car has about 8200 miles on it and has only has the 1200 mile break in oil change. Here is a picture.

Don't worry about it. Completely normal, it could be from the last oil change all the excess oil wasn't clean off and dust particles and or sand stuck to it.
You can wipe it off with a micro fibre cloth and forget it. Don'd wipe the rubber seal under the cap as it wont be affective in sealing if you do.

in that case wipe it all off and clean the cap well then before placing it back on the engine spread some fresh oil on the rubber washer.
