Need Help: Trading my 135i to M3
Guys, I just got my car two months ago but I don't know why I feel I need more power. I know that my car which is '11 N55 E82 135i provides enough power actually but I just feel it isn't enough. So, here's the story, I plan to trade it or sell it to get 08-09 E92 M3 with high miles. I'm sure I can afford the maintenance etc but the problem is am I crazy enough to trade in my 11,7xx miles with 40K+ miles? It's that really worth it. How's the reliability of 40K+ miles M3 with DCT?
By the way, I got the DCT on my car and looking for another DCT for the E92 M3. I really need your advice here since I don't really have enough time to enjoy my 135i since its just two months old. Please correct me if what I'm thinking is wrong. I tried to make up my mind but it seems I can't get clearer vision. I do have a plan to do some mods on my 135i and I tried to convince myself to enjoy it and do some mods rather than go with high miles E92 M3. M3 has become my dream car since I was 10 years old. Any of you experience this kind of feeling before? Appreciate any comment and opinion guys. I know it's kind of silly topic but here I am in that silly situation. Thanks guys!

You can always mod the 135.
Sounds like you jumped into a car without checking things out first. I would do some research on here and see how you feel afterwards. Also, if you don't have enough time to enjoy the car you have now then why sell it just to get another car which you don't have time for? |

I did some research about M3 before. The reason I'm saying I can't enjoy it is because I juts got it two month ago. It's not literally I can't enjoy any car because I rarely use it, but because I just got it for a while but feel I need something more. Some people say just tune my 135i but I won't do that because it's just not my style.

I guess I stand by my statement that you didn't do enough research before getting the 135 if you just want a car with more power and not mod it.

Ooo, I thought with the M3. I did research before buying my '11 135i coupe. I got a good deal on that car with only 10K miles. At first I could make up my mind by losing M3 from my budget at that time was an M3 with 45K+ miles and I'm hesitate to buy it since I don't have any experience with a car that has high miles like that, even though it's an M3 that many people said is very reliable. But don't get me wrong, it's your opinion and I highly appreciate it.
The reason why I made this topic to the forum because I believe I can find someone else with high miles E9x M3 and DCT. Reading from long term review is not what I'm looking for but more to in literally real life as daily driven car.

45k miles is nowhere near "high".

I'd make sure you do a few test drives before you make the jump. I made the jump from a 135i as well and to be honest the M3 "felt" slower than my Dinan-tuned 135i. In reality I they were really close in straight-line performance. Torque is deceptive. If you just want the car to go/feel faster, I'd just go with a tune. Go with Dinan if you are worried about warranty issues. I'm pretty positive you'll be extremely happy with the power.

Yeah, you might want to test drive an M3 before you get too worked up.
It feels great, like a beast. But you really gotta be pushing 6K rpm to get the full effect. Winding it up like that can be difficult on normal roads, which is why many prefer the 135i/335i variants like what you already have. |

Get a jb4 installed and let us know if you wanna switch.
2 different breeds of animals really. Thing is, it's an m3. I'm sure everyone who gets in their car catches themselves just smiling

I test drove both a 135i M Sport and M3 (both DCT) before buying. I ultimately bought the M3. If you like stop light to stop light speed, stick with the 135i. It "feels" quicker in that scenario. Chip it and it really comes alive. The torque is no comparison in favor of the 135i. Where the M3 shines is on track, and cornering on back roads. Honestly, given my driving habits, I probably should have went with the 135i. However, there is something to be said about owning an M. It does put a smile on your face. Not to mention it will hold its value much better. There's only so many M's produced. 135's are everywhere.

Actually most of the miles that I will spent on will be city miles. It takes me about 10 minutes to go to school or approx. 5 miles one way. On weekend usually I will go further to Sacramento that approx. 20 miles away, or about 40 miles round trip. So, with the condition that I have, that would be more to prestige and satisfaction of having M rather than enjoying the performance of the car itself, am I right? Fuel doesn't really matter to me since I'm not going for long trip during weekday and the gas price in my area is not a big deal at all.

I saw those two cars already. Probably not the E90 because I want to stay with DCT trans. Right now my budget will be max $40K so I will to save money before pulling the trigger. Thanks though

I'm not saying it's not fast enough but I just need more power IMO. I know those two have really different engine, where 135i has turbo that allows the torque to push as low as 2,000 rpm while the M3 has to build up the rev just like many people said to build the power.
It's great and awesome to have 135i in my area since it's really rare in my area where I only found 2 135i including me and the rest are 128i. I guess I should do a test drive and decide further whether I want to keep it or upgrade it

Trade 135i for M3
Funny. I just went through this. I bought a 2008 135i in 2008 and just traded it 4 months ago for a 2008 M3 with 6200K miles on it. The car had Eisenmann race and HRE's. I liked the 135i, but, I love the M3. The good news: I got great trade in value for the 135i with 45k miles on it. The M3 was absolutely perfect as in like new with very expensive mods on it that I didn't have to pay for. My insurance went up $3 per year. The M3 is larger in size and a totally different experience. I like the technology in the 135i with twin turbo's (N54). Since the 135i was paid for I only had to come up with about $23K. I would do it again in a heartbeat. The M3 is classy, more comfortable, and looks better - even though I like the looks of the 135i. The 135i is an around town accelerant. The M3 is more of a open road cruiser that performs best at a higher (illegal) speed. Finally, the 135i is only 7/8 size of a car if you are over 5'10".

Mod that 135 and you'll beat the m3 running backwards.... there was a guy on my last base whom just did an intake and exhaust and tune with one of those facny companies...
400WHP barely spent 2,000..

hi
I agree! I used to own a N54 335I convertible, and i modded my car with intake and tuned my car, two modifications only, i beat my friend's 08 M3 all the way from 0-70 or 30-70. I think all the N54 or N55 135s are also fun to drive and do some modifications, and i think you will be very surprised with your 135 after few mods. Now, i have an M3, and i'm pretty happy with my M3, but i just miss my 335i so much, the acceleration of 335i is just so great. I don't know if you have ever driven an M3, but my suggestion is to mod your 135 instead of trading an M3, because M3 is not fast at all except an supercharged. Here is my experience, i hope it helps.

First off, are you an adult? If the answer is yes, then you should be able to make your own informed decision about buyiing a 40K+ used car and not rely on random people on the internet.. Sounds crazy when you think about it no?
Secondly, mod the 135. You seem to want an M3 just b/c it's an M. If you think this car is much faster you're wrong. The 135 is easier to mod and much cheaper to boot. Also the car makes much more torque and in city driivng will feel much faster than the M3 which need to rev to make power. Give the 135 a chance, do some mods, and then if you want traded it in. You're gonna lose money right away trading the car. |

Sounds like you want the rush of horsepower and speed mostly. The 135i with a JB4 tune would easily give you that for a fraction of the cost of getting a M. While a 40k miles M3 isn't worn out, the fact you might stretching yourself financially to be in it will only make you happy in the short-term. If money isn't a big deal, I say "ok" go for it (your young only once...etc.) but the smart thing to do would be stick it out with your 135i, add a tune, and maybe sell in 2 years. At that time, there will be a lot of '09 - '11 M3s with a lower price point that you can get into (if you're still interested).
Separately, you might want to consider a nice E46 M3 with lower miles for around $30k. It's really a fantastic car for the track, everyday, and modding. It's classic looks will last the test of time. Drop a supercharger in there for a couple grand and that car will fly.
