Price check

I'm thinking of trading in my E92 m3 2011.75 manual (50000 km loaded manual) for a Porsche Macan after the crappy winter this year. I just want to know what's a fair price from the dealer.
Thanks

dealer trade in would probably give you $45K and turn around and list it for $55K

Seems kinda low for a 2011 model year, don't you think? I see on autotrader even 2008 cars are still in the low 40's and 2009 in high 40's or more.

I am talking about dealer will typically low ball you when come trading in a car... but in a private sell, I think around mid 50's.

Thanks guys. I was thinking it was worth about 50 in a dealer trade.

I got offered 50k for my 2011 e92 90% loaded with 50,000km in January 2013 from one dealership in town. In September I got offered the same price with 70,000km and some damages from another dealership, needless to say I jumped and got a 2013.

I suppose its the old adage of "its worth what someone will give you for it"

With the excitement of the new M3/M4's coming though, you'd probably be better off obtaining a trade value, then take the time it takes for the Macan order to arrive to sell it (preferably with an accommodation sale).

I'll explain:-

If we can, we try and help our customers this way! The ideal, is to list your car on the Autotrader (or variants of) for an attractive price, compared to the rest out there - this should ensure a swift sale. Make the new buyer aware that the deal they are receiving is because you would like to do an accommodation sale through the Porsche store (but be clear - no warranties either implied or given - its just a paper trail). As the new owner would need to pay applicable taxes at the licencing office anyway, its no skin off their back really to get the trade run through the store against your new Macan and you'll get a triple benefit:

1) You get better than book/wholesale for your car from the buyer.
2) You get the tax savings on its agreed sale value against your new car.
3) The purchaser got a nice example M3 for less than others were asking/dealing at (You'll make more in the tax savings! Hence the lower selling price - Its just a 'back scratching' exercise )

A good rule of thumb for the trade 'wholesale - retail' is $8000-12000. It evaporates quickly however, reconditioning to get a car/M3 to CPO standard for BMW resale (which is probably who Porsche would sell it too), can be $2+k just for tires alone, typically they can accrue $4-6k easily through the shop. Then there's the cost of attaching the CPO warranty ontop leaving whatever is left is over to be heavily negotiated by the next buyer...

That New Macan looks like being a good choice, my old colleagues at our Porsche store here say its selling like hot cakes!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do...

As long as the Porsche dealer is willing to do this setup. One GTA Porsche dealer does charge $400 in admin fee for this.

I know in the past, Budd BMW actually was a willing participant of such setup (I guess they may still be now) but they do charge a fee of like $500. There was thread written in the e90post or M3post many years ago described your setup.
