If it's a Mustang GT from 2007-current then it has the option of 3.55 rear axle with an LSD, or 3.73 rear axle for the Bullitt from 2008-'09, and optional on all 2010 to current GTs. A standard GT from 2011 on has a 3.31 rear axle with a limited-slip diff standard. All current Mustangs from 2005-current have solid rear axles. But that doesn't matter much since the 5.0 GT can't match the M3's performance on most race tracks and at each stop light, with the right driver in each, of course. The 2003-'04 Cobras can drive really well and handle. I went to Ford's Michigan Proving Grounds a few years ago to get my test driver's license through them, and one of my final tests was to lap the coned off wet jennite circuit in an '03 Cobra. It was fantastic... I say, they're both morons for racing. The M3 just got lucky he didn't fuck up.
