ZR-1 Specs are out...638HP/604TQ

Official GM announcement snippets, for easy future reference:

**************************************** *****************

CHEVROLET ANNOUNCES CERTIFIED POWER RATINGS FOR THE NEW CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR1:

The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Powertrain has completed SAE certification of the ZR1's supercharged LS9 V-8 and the results exceed the estimate:

638 horsepower (476 kW) and
604 lb.-ft. of torque (819 Nm)

...output is nearly 103 horses per liter, or just about 1.7 horses for each of the engine's 376 cubic inches.

...unquestionably the most powerful automotive production engine ever manufactured by General Motors ... enables... top speed of more than 200 mph.

The Corvette ZR1 goes on sale this summer.

Fuel economy testing has not been completed... will be the most fuel-efficient 600-plus-horsepower car on the market.

...engine is hand-built by specially trained technicians at GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich.

Endurance and reliability testing have shown the engine to be robust and low-maintenance, just like other engines in the small-block family

The key enabler of the LS9's performance is the industry's first production application of a new, positive-displacement Roots-type supercharger... 2.3-liter displacement ensures adequate air volume at high rpm.

Maximum boost pressure is 10.5 psi (0.72 bar).

...integrated charge cooling system that reduces inlet air temperature for maximum performance.

LS9 details
Aluminum cylinder block
iron cylinder liners
finish-bored and honed with a deck plate installed
Forged steel crankshaft with a nine-bolt flange

sick car. Just sick. Rock everything on the road except MAYBE an enzo and koenigsigg (sp?). A few tweaks and it'll just be a killer.

check out this video of high speed testing. the other cars on the track look like road blocks! The car hit a VBOX indicated 206mph on this test.....this was a GM test too.

Any car that can accelerate from 130mph to 200mph that fast is pure beast.

That's similar to an e90 going from 30mph-100mph.

yup! I hope they put in a VERY good traction control system. We are going to see some bad accidents with these cars. However people will crash doing what they love!

I honestly don't know what it is. I mean, I love the Z06 and the C6, but there's something about this one that just doesn't interest me. That makes absolutely zero sense, I know, but I just really don't like the way it looks, and looks can put me off of a car very easily.

I'm sure that if I was ever to get behind the wheel of this thing I'd be in love, but until that day I'm just not "into" it.

From what I heard the car is computer limited to 210mph and that the car actually reached 208mph. The 205 reading was the average of the runs.

More info

Curb weight (full gas tank and all fluids) 3324 lbs
Dry weight 3155 lbs

Chevy really wanted to hit one out of the park with the ZR-1 and man did they ever. This car is unreal. I'd love to just hear one in real life.

I cant wait to see one of these on the road or at our next MIR track rental. I know this one guy that will certainly buy one. At the last rental he showed up w/ 3 different car trailers. Inside was a GT2 w/ tuning, a stock C6 Z06, and a tuned Ford GT w/ 700hp. He simply has to buy this car to complete his collection of ridiculously fast modern muscle.

fyi-he ran 11.0x w/ his bone stock Z06, 11.2-11.3 in the GT2.....he can DRIVE. no matter what he tried, he couldnt get the GT into the 10's...I remember that making him really mad.
