FUGLY....how can they screw up the production car so much from the concept car??

Looks like a squished Golf.

I actually dig it.

Like the fact that it's getting away from the bubbly look of today's Vdubs, the wheels are sweet too!

BTW, it also has Chris Bangle flame surfaces..... The point where the A pillar meets the hood is right off the 6 series.

I have had a number of VWs. This new Scirocco looks like the result of an unholy mating between a Honda Civic & VW Golf. Not my cup of tea. The Scirocco Mk1 had the best design, IMO.

Looks better than any current VW, although I'm not sure what that means.

lol, let's see if we agree on this.

Okay, where to start. Well to be honest I'm not the biggest fan. It has this air of unfinished-ness to it. The overall stance isn't half bad, but I think the details are crowded and a bit mish-mashed. The back is where the design hurts the most. The front would be heaps better if they remove that bumper piece that stretches in front of what should be, imo, a single piece grille. I'm a personal fan of the Audi-style single frame grilles. You can see what I mean if you look at that blacked out frame.

The design is just a bit too much. In fact as I'm typing this I think I need to have another look because it's kind of forgettable. That slight kink in the rear side of the greenhouse makes it look a little heavier...I think it should have stayed straight to make the car look longer.

The rear almost looks Japanese in design to me. The details are all sort of thrown together. I think they stand out better as individual details, but as a whole it just doesn't mesh.

Lemme take another look and finish up my opinion lol.

K, the front looks better on second glance. The headlights fit the design, and the hood creases look aggressive. The mirrors are very well executed, but I doubt that they'd suit a production spec model. The foglights are overcomplicated. In fact it looks like they took two different foglight systems and put them together. You have those fogs on the top that look like the ones on a non-M-Sport 1 series, and you have generic fogs beneath those. Weird.

That black door ding strip has to go too. Never was a fan of those.

The rear of the bumper is killing this car. It looks almost added on. The door handles need to be placed higher too. I like the blacked out roof. In fact I like blacked out roofs on all cars really.

I also think that the rear shoulders should be swoopier a la the Altima Coupe. The trunk gap area also seems cluttery. If the body creases flowed with the taillamps I think it'd look better.

That about sums up my opinion.

I was giving it serious, serious thought actually.

But the field is way too competitive and the failure rate is depressing.

The lines on this car flow nicely.

From front to back, the design was meticulously concepted.

It's easy to bash something you don't know how to do or have never done.

Not to discredit opinion or tastes. I'm just saying...

It's all about opinions. I respect yours. I personally don't see the flow anywhere but that's just me.

I agree with everything you just said there bro!

If I was to fix the front I'd do this:

Before:

After:

- black centre section of bumper changed to white
- stupid fogs removed and centred the other fogs
- door handles moved up
- chunkier sideskirts from concept added
- black side detail removed!

I'm not even going to bother editing the rear, you are right in saying it needs a lot of work to it.

Overall I would prefer this as the next Golf! It's closer to a Golf than Scirocco. This would have been great after the Mk4 Golf, the overall shape of the cars are similar. I would have prefer a more exciting Scirocco like these old chops:
