Splinter Cell Conviction. Yay or Nay?

Well, I was excited to get it on Friday, but after reading in the Splinter Cell Hack thread I am having second thoughts.

What's everyone's opinion on it so far?

Me too! Exact two titles I am looking most forward to. I am also really excited about L.A. Noire, but that isn't coming until fall.

If you liked the original Splinter Cell games then you will be very disappointed with the newest one.

It's like this...you're used to BMW's quality, fit and finish, and you've loved them for years. And then you go to buy your next BMW, you're super excited, you take it out of the lot and you find it's exactly like a Ford Taurus.

That's the best analogy I can come up with in my sleep deprived state.

The single player is pretty weak but I've been told by a few people that the co-op stuff is awesome.

I have it, and I think it's just a matter of getting used to the new interface, although the story is a bit weak so far.

I think a better analogy is you went in to get a 328i and were given a lancer evo w/ mods. They're both outstanding cars, but you wanted something comfortable, and were given something that is harsh and hella fast.

...and only lasts till 30k miles. I hear the story mode is like 5 hours long.

6-7 hours actually. Then you also have the co-op story mode which is another 4 or so. Thats about 10-11 hours of good fun. Not to mention the other co-op modes.

You see that vid of the first 12 minutes of Alan Wake? That cabin scene was awesome. Can't wait till I pick this one up.

This.

Ubi can go suck a fat one. I waited so long for a new SC game that I hoped would match Chaos Theory's awesomeness. This game's a piece. It appeals to a mainstream audience and is now just another action game with stripped down stealth mechanics.

Yep, I honestly died a little bit inside when I found out.

Gaming companies are solely in the market for the money now. They used to be about making good games, but now they just want to appeal to as many people as they can. Essentially they must find the lowest common denominator between the masses.

If only they knew that making epic games would lead to epic profits.

I would love to own my own gaming company.

I got an error on that link, but I'll be sure to Google it. I love games like that. I have a feeling Alan Wake will be good.

Agreed. The entire point of Splinter Cell IS the stealth aspect. I was bummed they stripped it down, but then I saw vids of everything going black and white when you are in cover, and then the idiot hint system that is now on the walls for whatever reason.

I think I am going to wait for it to drop to $20 (which might not take very long honestly) and then grab a used copy at Gamestop. Stupid Ubisoft.

What were you able to sell it for? If you don't mind me asking...just curious what kind of price the used market fetches.

The game is more like trying to make a movie instead of a good stealth game....totally stripped out "stealth" aspect, more story telling....

and too much "action"....

and I HATE that I cannot move the bodies and hide them from being detected....
That's what I used to do in old Splinter Cell games....take out one and hide the body....
