How much time did it take and how easy was it to get to all the "affected" areas? Did it require to get under the car?

I know some people reported that it was a cracked hose, but what if it's a sensor, would I be able to get to the sensor without having to remove the intake manifold (the plastic)?

Approximately one year later the car just threw the same codes p2430 and p2432 again! Has anybody had to replace this particular hose twice? Or could this be something else?

Mine has been running strong for the last year or so. My original hose didn't crack though, the sensor just died.

What do your fault codes say? If the fault history is just two recent faults, it is doubtful that the problem lies somewhere else. You might just be unlucky.

I'm sure the dealer replaced mine a second time about 4K after the first. Not sure if the second one was cracked like the first or if the sensor failed.

Did you replace the hose yourself?

Yep. I have read about some doing it without removing the intake manifold - they must have had child's hands. Remove the intake and I shouldn't take you any more than an hour or two.

Car threw the code listed above. Luckily I found this thread. I went to Park Ave BMW for parts as I planned on doing oil, oil filter change and change the hose.

filter 26$, hose 200$+ and thats not even all the items.
Not sure if anyone posted a DYI as I have been searching youtube and M3post. If anyone has a link please shoot it to me. Ihave some free time and might as well get to know my car.

Just went to have the same codes checked at BMW of Bellevue. $250 for diagnostic. They have to replace the mass air flow (secondary air) suction hose/sensor located behind/under the intake. Total cost $1162!!!

I believe #3 on the diagram is the same hose/sensor that needs to be replaced. Can someone confirm this?

Is it hard to replace? If not, then I would be paying about $125 for parts and save $800!!

Hey Bro,

I just received the part for the guys in silver spring for under 130. I will operate on it tomorrow. If anyone local has done this before and wants to help I can provide beer, food and humor for your time.

Jch, I will let you know as I prefer to learn/do as many maintenance items as possible.

Thank you for this thread. Totally works. Get the plenum off and it is much easier.
I will wait to see if the light comes back on. I had to clear the code so the wait begins.

I just completed this repair and it was a breeze.

So the increased emissions light came on about a week ago. I was away for work for a few weeks, but when I got back I ran the diagnostic (BMWhat) and found error codes:
- Fault: Catalytic conversion LSU / Air leak from throttle / Secondary air mini HFM / Cat conversion / Catalyst conversion LSU
- Code: BMW 2739
- Fault: brain form-light test switch: signal / unknown fault code / Fuel level sensor
- Code: BMW 27C5

(BMW error code 2739&27C5 = error code P2430...see link below)

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=928325

After doing some reading I narrowed it down to the sensor failure for the suction hose to the secondary air pump. Number '3' in the diagram below

Name: 12c50bc9.jpg
Views: 2962
Size: 52.1 KB

Number 11 in the picture is where the sensor is on the hose, but the actual part '11' is the plug and not the sensor. BMW only sells the entire suction hose. If your hose is good but only the sensor is bad then you will have to order the sensor somewhere else. You can get them on from various sources online:

http://www.maf-shop.com/product_info...0b76c4946cb66f

http://www.amazon.com/Siemens-5WK963.../dp/B007WPD2KG

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VDO-Mass-Air...-/130912676776

Amazon seems to be the cheapest source.

I went ahead and purchased it from the dealer because I am inpatient. The cost here in Germany was roughly 88 Euros (~$110). So still comparatively similar prices and I knew that the house wouldn't be an issue...so it was worth it to me.

I did remove the air box and the intake. There is no way I would have been able to remove the hose from the back of the air pump without taking the intake off. The pump is underneath the intake, and the hose quite literally is right up against the firewall at the rear of the engine compartment. My hands are so clumsy that I actually took out the air pump as well to get access to the hose, but in hindsight this was completely unnecessary. I also replaced the air filter as mine was pretty dirty.

All in all the job was really simple, and fun to tinker on the M car. I am by no means a mechanic, but fancy myself as a DIYer. I believe that anyone with some simple hand tools could complete this job. There is no way I would pay $1000+ ( Stealership) to get this fixed.

If you need any specific help with this repair, just drop me a PM, I'd be glad to help.

I changed the hose and the light just came back on. I guess it needs a certain number of starts to cycle through.

Check system gives error 275 and 31. Code reader gives P2430. I will wait to install BPM program perhaps it can give me more details? Any info from others is welcome.

TIA and Merry Christmas

Thanks for the info!! I replaced the hose Xmas eve and am waiting to see if the light turns back on. I had to take the air pump off also - was not able to get the hose off - clamps were too tight!! I ended up paying BMW $250 for diagnose and then another 110 for the part. Saved about $800 bucks - as long as the light stays off!!

Right on! Always good to save money!!

If you cold start the car twice and the light stays off then you should be good. As far as I am tracking, that is what it takes to register the error after clearing the code. But if after 2xcold starts the CEL doesn't come back, then you should be golden. The error hasn't returned on mine.

Now...if the light does come back after 2xcold starts, then you could be looking at a bad air pump. If that is the case...there goes all your monies...LOL. Hey at that point, just buy a tune and eliminate the cold start.

From what I'm hearing the Suction hose replacement seems to solve this issue. Curious to see if anyone had this issue pop up again after replacement?

I'm still running strong since the hose/sensor was replaced. I'm currently at 58K miles. Also, I have done at least 25 laps of the Nordschleife, several sessions at Hockenhiem and Spa since its been replaced. The car sits a lot now but I rive it during the summer/fall.

Thanks for the input, I shall order myself a new suction hose and get this call cleared up!

Just wanted to refresh this thread because I had these two codes pop up (after a month or two of increasingly rough cold starts) and I bought the listed part for ~$140 online. Had it installed today and the car's 100% again - no codes, smooth and quick on cold start. Can't imagine what the dealer would have charged me for this...
