OEM Exhaust Mod (Bypass Method) Pics and Video

EXHAUST IS FOR SALE IN PRIVATE SELLERS SECTION OF THIS FORUM!!

My welder has finally come through with the exhaust mod. I went with the "bypass method", the center chambers with packing were bypassed. Here is the link for more info http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=609687

I painted the cans black, looks so much better! My total expenses $400:
-OEM exhaust purchased from a forum member Silvertige $150
-Welder $240
-Paint $10

I think the sound is a little more aggressive than the original OEM exhaust mod with covering perforated pipes. In real life it sounds bassier than in the attached video.

Another tip, if you install the muffler yourself, use a mechanics chair, works like a charm and you can lift it in place using the chair gas cylinder.

Cops sure notice my exhaust a lot more now. Got pulled over and the cop said "You need to slow down, sir" when I wasnt going any faster than I normally would. I guess it is a common problem of loud exhaust owners...

I had this done last week as well and have really been enjoying it. The best is a 1st gear take off when it sounds pretty deep up until 5krpms and then starts getting more high pitched and starts shreiking after that. Very nice tone making it not just a boomy american muscle sound.

I painted mine black as well and installed the OEM black chrome exhaust tips-it would look good wtih your CF black spoiler. They look awesome.

This produces more drone than the traditional method of covering the perforated pipes but is also much more aggressive. The drone is much more managable as long as you keep it in the right gear. 6th for cruising on the freeway if you are going faster than 73mph (at 70 there is no drone in 7th) Or if you are on the street at like 40-45 keeping it in about 5th and its silent.

Very worth the racy sound. I almost pissed myself when I let er rip in a tunnel the other day! wow! The oem exhaust did not even make a sound in the tunnel! I liked the sound of the OEM a lot but always felt it was not loud enough in volume. To me this is the closest in keeping the OEM tone out of anything I have heard. Therefore if you like the tone of the OEM system but want more volume than this is your best bet

I have to say, I agree with everything you said.
This mod is not for faint of heart. If my M was a dd, I'd probably do something less aggressive like covering the perforated pipes When driven aggressively this exhaust is hard to beat.

Best sounding OEM modded exhaust this far that I've heard! Not sure if it's the quality of your video, or you did something different but wow this sealed the deal on making me want to do it now as a temp to getting my exhaust.

If possible can you post the original thread of how you modified the exhaust. thanks!

What do you do with the pipes in the middle chamber after you disconnect them from the sides where you opened them up?
do you pull them out?

Thanks! Video itself has a lot to do with how the exhaust sounds, but it is indeed really nice sound. This thread pretty much sums it up what I did and the link included in the original post has all the exact details on the inner workings.

I had this done as a temp, I am shopping for an akra slipon or full evo, but lately there hasnt been any used offers. I am looking into options of buying it brand new now. As soon as I get akra, my exhaust will be for sale

No, I left them in there. I am not 100 percent on this, but I think if you want to take them out to cut weight, you'll have to open up inner chambers with packing.

I did the OEM mod as a temp solution until I get my Akra. I just always felt that stock is too tame... Thanks!

A little too loud for my taste..I prefer cutting out the perforated pipe in the center section and welding a straight pipe..sounds a little more muted.

This is def more free flowing..
