You Know You Live In Montreal When...

#1 LOL!!
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montre...s-in-hole.html

Quote:
A city bus had to be evacuated Wednesday morning after it got stuck in a large hole in Montreal East.

The bus was being driven over what looked like a large puddle when it sank into the hole at the corner of Durocher Avenue and Sainte-Catherine Street East, according to the Montreal transit corporation.

Firefighters had to free about 25 passengers and the driver, but no one was hurt.
#2 WTF
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montre...-montreal.html

Quote:
Traffic was rerouted in east-end Montreal Tuesday after a 4.5-metre wide pothole opened up on Ontario Street.

The pothole, at the corner of Plessis Street, is at least 1.5 metres deep.

The city says the ground gave away beneath the asphalt, causing the hole to appear.

Traffic will be detoured away from the intersection until at least Wednesday.
#3 WTF x1000000
http://www.globalnews.ca/Ville+Marie...804/story.html

Quote:
he fact that a huge slab of concrete fell on a highway downtown Montreal is proof that not enough has been done to improve infrastructure in Quebec.

That’s according to Montreal engineer Dr. Helen Christodoulou.

The engineer noted that the province promised a major review of bridges and overpasses following the Sept. 30, 2006 overpass collapse in Laval – which killed five people.

Sabrina Ashraff, the 21-year-old daughter of a survivor of that collapse, told Global News she couldn't believe her eyes when she turned her TV on Sunday.

She said she can't understand why the same mistakes are being made five years after the tragedy which nearly killed her father.

Christodoulou said there is no doubt Quebec’s infrastructure is failing.

View "Montreal Tunnel Collapse- Concrete Section of Ville Marie collapses" on Storify

Fortunately, no one was injured Sunday morning when the 15-metre slab of concrete collapsed from the roof of the Ville-Marie tunnel.

But if the collapse had occurred on a regular weekday morning – lives may have been lost, say officials.

Roughly 100,000 vehicles travel on the highway each weekday.

The slab of concrete that came down included several blocks that were used to prevent glare from the sun as drivers enter the tunnel.

The route won’t be re-open until it is deemed safe.

lol.... +1 on that...
the entire city if falling apart.

i am sorry to say but having worked with both ontario and quebec provincial governments, the way quebec does business is ridiculously carefree and disorganized, specifically when it comes to transportation (all my research concerns this field).

#1 happens a lot
I once got stuck in ridiculous traffic before that round about chaos next to Rockland due to a bus getting stuck in a pot hole

I don't know if it is still there (probably is), the huge ass pothole off Acadie, facing Antabli (around there)?

Also, the exit to the Nun's Island from Univeristy street has been closed for 3 motherfucking years.

Once I was on my way home (Nun's), and they closed the OTHER exit (both of them) with their damn cones due to construction ahead. the following conversation happened:

construction worker: wow, you can't exit here, we are working
me: well how do I get home?
CW: use the other exit
me: which?
CW: on the other side
me: the one that has been closed for 3 years and rerouted me to this one
CW: well, what can I say?
me: look, it is 2am, I need to get home.. so either you let me through or you can pay me for a hotel.. you're not working on the exit
CW: go.

And we have not even talked yet about Mercier bridge, Champlain Bridge, and Jacques-Cartier Bridge, which are almost as old as the name they carry.

LOL

Was in Montreal this weekend... My 6th time. I love the city, as close to Europe as you can get.

2 things are for sure about MTL/Quebec... Most people don't know how to drive and the $150 bottles of goose at clubs are dirt cheap when you come from NYC.

Maybe the streets and bridges would hold up better if they didn't have stupid names.

Montreal is a city.. not a Province.. for 1

We don't say "eh", we also don't say "aboot"
we have the best strip clubs in north america
our clubs actually stay open until 3am (as opposed to the rest of Canada)
we have the best food and we're not little Asia like Toronto/Vancouver
