What a DB...having said that, I wanted to look at the ratings for your car and accidentally clicked on the 1* rating!

In Car & Driver's Road Test Digest, they have a 6MT doing 4.1 secs and 12.6 in the 1/4 on May of 08. On Feb of 2009, they had a DCT do an identical time of 4.1 and 12.6. I see no advantage of DCT over 6MT or vice versa. Although harder to achieve said times in 6MT, I find that it's part of the fun of learning to launch your car properly.

That is the sole reason I got the DCT. My track-prepped E36 M3 is manual, and I enjoy rev-matching downshifts as much as the next guy. I simply wanted to go as fast as I could in the E92, and that's with the DCT of course.
I couldn't agree with you more. My Evo X MR (DCT) allowed me to focus more on my braking and entry and I didn't have to spare any of my attention on shifting. But being that I was about to start a family and my track / canyon days were going to be significantly reduced, I went for a 6MT to keep me entertained on those short, lower speed commutes.

i agree..... I have a 6-MT but given my level of expertise (OR NOT ... am pretty much a novice) i'll be much faster around a track in a DCT if not for any other reason than its just soo easy..... maybe with more practice the times may come close with a 6 MT but the DCT will likely be faster around a track..... just a more "track intuitive" transmission I guess........

for me though....... on the E92....... its 6MT all the way......love it

Another DCT / 6MT debate.... I think they both have their merits. As far as which one is quicker, I would be willing to bet that the DCT car would win 9x's out of 10 in a side-by-side drag race. It's easy to screw up the launch in a 6MT. I just sold my 6MT M3 after 4 years and am eagerly awaiting my new DCT. I fell in love with Dual Clutch transmissions after driving the GTR and Porsche's PDK transmission (wife's car is a PDK Cayman S).

Weird? Amazing what a search function and 10-seconds will yield, huh?? Also, your steering wheel is on the wrong side...

those times were the European M3 coupe launch car, the test was conducted in Germany, and I think they didn't use the precise equipment to measure it. 12.5s 114mph is C63 level speed.

R&T got a 13.0s quarter with the M3 Sedan 6 MT in a California test a few months later. It was the only car that couldn't crack the 13s mark (against the C63, RS4, and ISF)

the answer is the same, 12.7s or 12.8s 112mph range is quick and about right in the range what we expect a 6MT M3 would run.

Yeah, that US test was weird, didn't realize there was a potential instrumentation issue w/ the germany tests. My understanding is that there was some belief (not sure there is any corroboration on this other than someone on these boards mentioning) that the testing temps in Germany were low (SAE correction may not fully negate) and there was a greater difference at the time between Euro and US software at that time. The C&D and R&T tests for those MTs in germany were some of the fastest times w/ any transmission. Also, given the MT is very tempermental to launch, might have also been a few situations of great launches where the higher torque in 1st gear may have helped if there was perfect traction.

yeah, that's why I don't trust any of the figures from R&T tests that shows them testing the cars in Europe. I just dont' think they use the proper equipment when they are on the road.

"Think" vs "know": Assuming anything about the testing equipment opens a can of worms, but regardless, in '07, three cars were tested at the same place, same day, etc..,

Try zipwho.com

The "cost of living index" (however that's defined) where I grew up: 50

The "cost of living index" where I live now and have chosen to make my life and raise my kids: 740

Somehow that doesn't seem like progress on my part.
