I couldn't agree more. I dont really understand why people ALWAYS have to bash the competition? Like you said, competition is good because it helps us improve!

Now that all four of those manufacturers offer high-performance models, its only gotten better. They're going to have to keep one-upping eachother, and all that is going to do is make things better and better for the people like us who just love to drive them |

I like the IS-F's looks. It's over-the-top, but it has the performance credibility to match it's "hey look at me" style. It's a very nice effort from Lexus, a company that normally does make such cars.
To much has been made by the "fake" exhaust. It's there for stylish reasons, let's get over it. Given all the publicity surrounding the exhaust tips and such, I wouldn't be surprised that the upcoming '09/'10 models get a) the same exhaust tips that's fully "functional" or b) switch to a more conventional dual exhaust If a "fake" exhaust keeps someone from buying the car, then I would venture that they weren't really interested in the car anyways and looked for something to harp on. |

yeah i saw it in person at the dealership when i was getting an oil change on my gs-350. Stacked exhaust tips looked way too gay. I didn't bother really analyzing the rest of the car at that point.

Actually saw another one last night take off, didn't sound bad at all, but totally agree with the rear end..not really feeling it.

The reason why people are upset at Lexus's car is because when you are offering a high performance luxury sedan you aren't willing to accept fake bits and peices. Granted the IS-F is very good in its own right but quite honestly the complaints are justified. People just want the whole package.

The intent is not to turn this into a bashing thread, BUT:
As for the exhaust tips...Lexus has already made a statement that this setup aids in exhaust flow, creating a scavenging effect. So it's not a "gimmick" as it actually serves an engineering and performance purpose. To me the "fake" exhaust tips are no more weak than say the fake air vents on the front fenders of a BMW. FWIW I looked at the new M3, C63 and IS-F and chose the IS-F. Peter p.s. I sold my SSTT 335i to purchase the IS-F

Did not know about the "scavenging affect", and what is it anyway? BTW, is the side vents on the M3 fake? If so, then it is only simply cosmetic and nothing else. Thanks for the info. |

Not sure about all BMWs but in the M3 the intakes on the hood are 1 = functional and 1 is present for maintaining a symmetric look. On the E46 M3 the side gills on the front fenders were similar. 1 used to help cool engine electronics. I'd bet the E9X M3 is the same.

To comment of whether something is fake or not is plain silly or plunking at straws. You need to look at it's merits and failings instead of the stuff that doesn't matter one iota.
The IS-F is a good car, to me it's not directly a rival to the M3, more an alternative in the same way as the C63 and RS4 are. |

Fake or not fake, whatever. This is what matters.
The IS-F is clearly impressive. I have seen this video on here before, and I believe the white M3 belongs to a member here. I can't believe the content of this video has been so soon forgotten. Selective memory? |

So why would you consider the ISF's side vents fake if there are heat emanating from it and there are actual holes on the vents? BTW, the side vents that extends to the side skirts also serves for better aerodynamics. And I guess we can also say that one of the intakes on the M3's hood is fake and one of the vents on the front fenders is fake as well. Call it the way it is regardless what the purpose might be. Just like you said, fake matters right. Fake is fake, period. Last edited by gbb357; 06-15-2008 at 11:40 PM.. |

Something that serves a purpose can't be "fake." The exhaust tips, regardless of their ties to performance, serve an aesthetic purpose. I don't care whether you find that purpose pleasing to the eye, or not. That is why they are there.
People buy cars because they look nice, too, remember? Edit: because I cant spell "eye" |
