In love with my M
Some days I always contemplate whether I should just sell my M3 since its getting higher in mileage. But it just seems like nothing interests me anymore. Unless it's a Ferrari or Gt3.. But those things are $$. I'll always end up liking the new stingray or a 911 but then just fall out of love and admire my E92. Safe to say I think it's going to be with me for a very long time at this rate. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yes yes yes! I regret selling my E46 Zhp, won't make the same mistake with my M3! Keeping it for a VERY LONG TIME! Next move is another 7 as a daily and M for weekends

I am the same way. I have a bad habit of getting bored with vehicles, selling them, and then regretting it and buying another one. Ive done it 3 times with sport bikes and countless times with cars. I always want something better until i sell and realise what i had and end up missing it.
I am not rich by any stretch. Not even wealthy. I would go so far as to say i dont even have a right to drive a $45000 M3 based on my wifes and I's income. I have a 10x nicer car than my peers. I envy the people on here that post pics of their 3 Ferraris, 2 Lambos, 6 Porsches and the 14 other exotics they used to have, and sold because they didnt like the color after 2 weeks of ownership. That being said, i intend to keep the M3 forever. Not saying i actually will, but as of now i am going to daily drive it (about 5000-6000 miles a year) until its paid off. At which point i will garage it, turn it into a weekend cruiser, and buy another car as a daily driver. I would ultimately love to get something exotic and cheap like a 360 Modena and keep the M3 as my DD but thats out of my price range. Who knows what the future will hold. Point is at this point, whether it is a daily driver or a weekend toy i dont have any plans to sell because for the price tag there is just nothing that can beat the M3 for me. My next step up is Ferrari or Porsche GT3 i am afraid and thats too rich for my wallet. /life story Last edited by Rat3d ///M; 12-28-2014 at 09:23 AM.. |

OP, yes, big time. Bought the car one year ago, use it as DD. It still make me walk fast almost run to the garage a couple of blocks away every single morning. Same thing on my way back from the office, steaming down to start up and get away. And then we haven't even come to the weekend driving...
In addition to drive the car I really enjoy to detail it and occasionally add a little mod. Now having the car in a work shop for DCT leak fix since two weeks (!), I find myself to really miss the M3, almost close to being bitter... Had a few ok cars prior to this but nothing have come close in giving that feeling. It is redicilious how exhiting this car is to me, simply love it and plan to keep it for another couple of years. No idea where to go after this one. There are plenty other cars that I really like but I never feel I want instead of my E90 M3. Anyway, I'll take a spin with my wife in the 320D loaner and see if I feel better! Last edited by Helmsman; 12-28-2014 at 03:13 AM.. |

Yes! Was just thinking this the other day. I actually just sat in the car for a couple minutes to look around before driving off. I checked out the door cards, the contrast stitching on the steering wheel, the simple gauge cluster and layout of the HVAC / radio controls. Then I looked outward and saw the hood bump. Fell in love all over again and that was before I even fired up the amazing engine which can shake me to my core.
The whole thing makes me feel nostalgic, and I actually prefer the less busy interior over newer cars. That's how sports cars used to be - driving focused, and I love that about mine too. I've driven a lot of cars recently, but nothing makes me feel at home like the e92! |

Man I was on the search for a long time. Had alot of powerful cars except Lamborghini or Ferrari. Now that I'm in posession of this M3 E92 I'm fully aware what kind of treasure this bad boy is. To sum it up one of the best cars EVER and do yourself a favour...KEEP IT!

Yes I love my M3, the wife and I had a date night last night and on the way home with top down we actually turned the music down to listen to the engine......what a car! But after extended warranty ends probably selling

Sold my e46 and regret it. Glad to have my e92. Not interested in an automatic GT3 (oxymoron of the century) or automatic Ferrari. Now, a 997.2 GT3 with 6speed MT? Sure.

Yep I totally agree with what others have been saying too, I love my M3 !
Plan to keep...well..forever. Sure my warranty will run out in about a year, and I will likely pony up the money to get an extended drivetrain warranty. But even when all warranties expire, I will still keep. Many of the basic maintenance items I can do ( filters, fluids, spark plugs - even brakes) and other items that require specialized tools, etc. I will take to stealership. For me, hmmmm....I reckon I will add another car in another 2-3 years, ideally a Pre-owned Carrera 4S or really decent, perhaps 'unicorn' M5 in perf condition and low miles, yep I will have to spend a bunch of $$$ - I dunno the E60 V10 M5's sound amazing...I would stay away from SMG and try to find 6 spd with ZCP ( if available). Cheers, Merlin

Here's the link to I post I make over 2 years ago. I think it still holds today. While there are obviously faster cars, few can compare subjectively to an e9x M3. I have come to discover that beyond a certain absolute speed capability, it is all about the subjective experience.

I know exactly what you mean; it is such a unique vehicle and the styling hasn't aged a bit; IMHO. It was always my dream to own an M3, since 1988, in fact. I saw my first BMW in 1978, it was a variant of the 3.0 CSL and in that moment knew that I wanted a BMW. The E92 M3 reminds me a little of the 3.0 CSL, sporty with avant-garde styling, but you know that you are looking at a serious performance car. I got the itch for a new car this year, but simply could not find anything wrong with my M3, a 2011 DCT with Sport Pack and MPE. Recently, I had a full paint correction done (20 hours), replaced the original clear bra and had it Opti Coated. Even in white the car still looks stunning and turns heads. Fast Forward to that itch, well I decided to keep the M, but added a 2014 911 C4S to the stable. The 911 is amazing, but the more I drove it, the more I realized that it is a totally different car to the M3, each have their positive attributes, but they do not deserve comparison. So the M3 will remain with me forever, IMHO it's a unique and classic vehicle, a muscular grand tourer with the ability to accomplish many tasks, similar to a Swiss Army Knife, while the 911 is the sharpest blade in the Swiss Army Knife. I am, however, down the road, contemplating an ESS Supercharger for the M3, if I do so I will have them replace the rod bearings and motor mounts just to be safe. PS: I've attached images of both vehicles - I know, I like white, what can I say?

Since it's my only car for now and only has 18k miles, not much will change with it, but when it gets into the higher mileages and I can afford a second car, I'll probably switch out the engine with a Dinan stroker or something. So this M3 will be around for a while.

The supercharger will make the m3 feel more like a super car. I like the Porsche's but they're more of a weekend toy. No space to fit anything if you need it for some practicability.

Best car I ever had, I got it a year ago after having a couple of BMWs and wanting more! I got what I wanted, and like everyone else on this thread I have to say that driving it is a sheer pleasure! I miss it when I'm at work and I just wish I could have a widow facing it so I can admire it all day! Never selling it, since BMW doesn't make V8 m3 anymore but I6 that sounds like a lawn mower I am keeping it forever for sure!!
I may get M5 down the road but this one will never be sold! |
