How long for paint on wheel repair to fully cure?

I had my curbed wheel fixed about 10 days ago and the repair looks pretty good but the clear coat still seems to be pretty soft. If I push on it with my fingernail it will dent. Does this sound normal and if so how long should it take for the clear to fully cure and become really hard?

Doesn't sound right but that would depend on the conditions it's been in since it was painted. Sunlight helps it cure better. Most paint won't be fully cured for several weeks though. That's why you never wax new paint for 4-6 weeks after painting.

Well, I know that an infrared light was used after the repair to help cure the paint, but other than that, the car is never really out in the sun. I park in the garage at home and in a parking garage at work and have probably not parked outside for more than an hour since the repair was completed.

Could be a couple of reasons. The clear could have been mixed wrong or just needs a bit more sun time.

I left my car outside in the sun all day today. Let's see if that helped. Haha.

If still soft after 10 days you got a bad job. Crosslinking should be done well before 10 days.

Powder or liquid coating?

Powder will be cured right out of the oven and ready to handle after 10-15 min cool down time.

Liquid force cured should be no more than 30 mins in the oven and ready to handle in about an hour.

Take the rim back to the to whomever did the work and show them what you are seeing.

Liquid (I guess) and the repair/painting was done with the wheel on the car so the wheel was not put in an oven. A highly recommended guy did the repair and I have heard nothing but good things about him so it is hard to believe that he did a bad job, but it seems that may be the case.

Well, if vendor is highly reccomended, he should have no problem making things right. Anyone can make a mistake.

Ask them what kind of cure testing they do. Solvent rub with weak agent like IPA will damage an undercured film, while not damaging a fully cured coating. Don't do it yourself!! Have them do it with you there.

I'm sure they will fix you up right. Goodluck.
