Exhaust Leak Help

Hi guys,

I am having a new issue with my exhaust. It seems a small bit of air is coming out from the muffler clamps to the connecting pipes. I can barely feel it. No matter what I do I cant get it to go away. Ive actually overtightened one of the clamps and it broke. Any suggestions? Its an Eisenmann sport exhaust and challenge connecting pipes. I had to buy normal exhaust C clamps from vivid racing because I didnt get any with the exhaust, but dont think thats the issue. Please help!

Thank you

Ah, you need a set of high quality exhaust clamps. You may have been sold clamps for other applications.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...tomotive&psc=1

Something like this, although Amazon doesn't seem to have them for cheap... try Napa Auto Parts.

Ah if you have those clamps, you really need to crank them, make sure they are tight!

Mcmaster-Carr has all sort of badass clamps. Also, some liquid exhaust gasket should be fine on stainless. Finally, you could have someone weld it. They couldn't get my fabspeed to stop leaking at the slip/clamp joint, so the shop tig welded it.

Excuse my ignorance but what's the result of having a slight leak that far back? Noise?

I noticed that where my challenge x pipe clamps to my Dinan rear, it actually crimps the flange a little. as if the x pipe connecting section is a few millimeters too small or the Dinan flange is a smidge too big.

Maybe this is your problem?

Likely zero impact if the leak is tiny.

these exhaust leaks pretty common with the aftermarket mid sections? is this whats causing codes to come up with the challenge?

leaks have zero to do with codes. Nothing in the back of the cats do.

so the only leak point of concern for codes is at the header connection to the primary cats?

Ya I dont have any codes or anything so I dont think you can get one from the back but not sure. I dont think it has affected any of the driving from what I can tell. Not sure if there's anything else id need to worry about?

permatex copper gasket maker should do the trick. I've had this issue before. If its small, some copper gasket maker will seal it. Any auto parts store should have it.
