General questions about the M-school
That is something I would love to do, lets start by saying that ...
I think that it is something I would want to have my GF participate in as well... But we are at different skill levels driving wise ... she has always driven trucks and SUV's and is a good drive but can't really drive stick (so are the cars at the driving school stick ??) Would a class like that benefit her ? she is interested in cars and stuff also is there like an all-inclusive package? hoteling included ? just getting some general info and first hand experiences from people on here who may have done it will let me know if its realistic or not |

Go for it!! Awesome first class experience all the way.
Your girl would greatly benefit regardless of her skill level. They teach you a really good foundation of driving skills, more in depth and better instruction than HPDE in my experience. I'm glad I started with M school. In my group there was one couple that turned the female driver stereotype on it's head, she owned an M3 and rocked out on the track while he was a pretty lame driver! Hotel and everything is included and it's nice... Cheers, Axis

Yeah, really depends on whether your gf is open to it.... After attending it, I think my wife would have been kind of freaked out and not really enjoying herself...driving M cars is a whole different world, especially if you're not used to them. At the time they had the 1Ms, which are manual transmissions, and were used during one exercise but they may have gotten rid of them...you might want to ask. All other cars are DCT.
Alternatively, she may want to do the regular BMW performance school (non M), or some of the local CCAs have a car control clinics/driving basics that maybe she should attend first to test the waters. School includes food and lodging (at the Greenville Marriott) and would highly recommend the 2 day vs 1 day. |

1Ms are probably gone and the new M6's should have taken their place. Join the BMWCCA to save 15% off the price. My wife and I did it and had a blast - 2 day school is amazing.
Food, lodging, transportation from hotel to school, hats, swag, etc all included. Most of the time is spent driving - classroom time is limited to maybe an hour each morning. |

Marriott (search some of the review posts about M-School here)
Agree with previous poster that some might freak out with the intensity level of the experience, but for anyone who is adventurous type and truly likes to drive they will love it. The instructors would quickly realize and adapt if someone wasn't dealing well. In my group several people couldn't drive manuals so they gave them 135i's rather than 1M's.

It was a good time, I would strongly recommend it. My 2 day class was very competitive so I could see if you couldn't drive stick where that would compromise the experience. I agree however that the Instructors (who are awesome) would compensate.
OP: If your GF loves cars it's hard not to love M School. They pick you up at the Airport, take you to the Marriott, Bfast, Lunch and Dinner included. Helmet, M Jacket, hat and other cool stuff too. Not to mention the Driving School! I started with BMW Car Control School, returned a month later for M School and have been attending BMW Club HPDE's ever since. Hooked!

The 2-day M School is fantastic. When I did it, two years ago, they were using the M5 and M6 with SMG and the M3 with DCT transmissions. If they are using the 1M coupes, then the stick would come into play on the exercises that use that car. The opportunity to do this class with an enthusiast girlfriend sounds great. You both should absolutely do it.

Does anyone have a phone number or contact email for the Performance School?
I can't find either on the website. Thanks.

OP go for it. I was at the PC with my wife in October and she didn't think she would drive at all but the instructors twisted her arm and she ended up really liking it. She did not want any part of the tracking part, but she did enjoy the skid pad and the braking exercises. The staff there does a really nice job of getting the wives and girlfriends involved.
I stayed at the hotel also. The service is top notch. They really treat you like a VIP. The hotel drivers even took us to downtown Greenville in the evening. If you have never been, the entire Greenville/Greer area is great. |
