Decision Time --- Need your Help!
I have narrowed it down to the following 2 cars:
***2010 M3. Alpine White, Carbon Fiber Roof, Nav, Tech Package, DCT. New. $68k. or... ***2008 Porsche Carrera S. Silver, black interior, full leather, nav, bose, sport chrono, 6-Speed, CPO. $70k. I'm completely split. Although the M3 probably handles better statistically, the feel of the Porsche is like no other. I realize this is a BMW forum, so your all probably a little biased, but help me out here. Which is the better car??? |

Space is actually a major factor for me. If they were both the same size, the 911 would be in my driveway right now, it's one of the few downsides the car has.

Space is what made my choice for me. Amazing how a well a mountain bike fits inside the M. Always nice to see the M waiting for me after a long ride.

Is this one of those, "let me pull you chain" threads? Buy whatever you want. If you need room, get a Panamera if Porsche is so great. Why ask an M3 message board? Email Edmunds and see what they say.

+1. We see a ton of these wishy washy threads. Usually, the OP answers his own question too. That said, these cars are not always practical, if they are then that is just a bonus so go with what your heart desires.

honestly I would not take any porsche over the M3...not denying porsche models such as 911 turbo or gt2 have higher performance, but I don't race on the streets, so the additional performance < practicality, space and general all-roundedness of the M3 you could call me biased though not because I love the M3 too much, but rather because I was never too fascinated by porsche's designs
if you plan on visiting the track, don't usually carry passengers or luggage then take the porsche even though I'd take the M anyday |

The Porsche is "the better car?" Why? For who? For you? It's the worst of the two if it's not going to work for you. The P-car is a sports car. The M3 is a "sports sedan" which is BMW's original marketing name, btw, whatever that means. They are different animals, they drive differently and they behave differently. Ownership is different. You need to decide what tickles your cojones best. Test drive, rent, borrow, etc.. But don't buy the Porsche just because it says Porsche on the trunk lid. Or the M3 because Car and Driver says it handles well. Or because of what we tell you |

Looking at your two choices, I would go with the M3 for the following reasons:
You are getting a brand new 2010 model, while the 2008 (which can be 'new') is currently a 2 yr old car already. On top of that, the 2009 997.2 is considered a much better car then the 2008 997.1, including model tech like workable nav, bluetooth and ipod connectors. And the last thing I would add, there have been so many discounted 2009 911s that personally I don't know if 70k for the 08, is that great of a deal. There were many reports on p-forums of brand new 09 911s going out the door for 80k (for original priced 100k+ cars). Thats really going to mess up the resale market for the 911s, especially the 08s.

You have to get what feels right man. I know my next car will be an M3 even if I could afford a new 911. Part because I want a 4 dr(but still want a monster), but mostly cause IM just not a porsche guy. My best friend would die to have a 911, but I just dont feel the same. I feel that way about the M3.
So go with what your heart tells you. You know when you look at the right car that it is what you should have. At least I think most people who are car nuts like most of us know what I'm saying. Now if neither of these two cars gives you that feeling where you know you have to have it, then maybe your next car is still out there somewhere... D |

not to be terse... but what's the point of this thread and threads alike?
you say "Although the M3 probably handles better statistically, the feel of the Porsche is like no other" followed by "No. The Porsche is the better car, but has no space. The lack of room puts the two cars at the same level." that's not even consistent. |
